Ok i am playing online game like WoW, Im in the middle of a big clan war.  And then GUESS WHAT the modem DISCONNECTS (The adsl light just dies and I lose connection)...  I am utterly sick of it.  My freely supplied dsl 502T modem by telecom which is connected to a belkin FD7230-D just cant handle it.

Does anyone know how I can fix this (If i can).  Or what is a good model of a new model that could be worth buying that does not suffer disconnections and is very stable and is at a reasonable price?

I don't know of any fixes, but disconnections sometimes happen regardless of what router you have. Personally, I use Linksys AG241 Router & would highly recommend it.

This is a sync issue.

I would have a long chat to your ISP about this.

Check the modulation setting on the router, probably set as "multimode" set it to "g.dmt" should cure your issue. the modem tends to like to resync when it switches between modes trying to estabish the best connection.

Is your exchange being upgraded to ADSL2+?  There is a period of about 4 weeks over which it is done and during that time they monitor the line performances.  At the end of the period they make global adjustments to fine tune the exchange.  I had about 10 to 20 disconnections a day with a day or two inbetween with no disconnections, and on the last day of the upgrade period all of a sudden I had absolutely no more disconnections.  During that troublesome period the line SNR reported by my modem was also very sporadic dropping to below 7 (should be around 10 to 12).

It can be your modem overheating if it happens only during on-line gaming or large downloads.  Try putting the modem upright and a few cm away from any walls of other stuff blocking ventilation.  In general modems get hot and heat increases noise in electronic circuits.

You can never have enough Volvos!
