Hi,

well my unlimited broadband 3 plan with Ihug has changed to a crap 20gig plan and i used to get around 1Mbps but now its more like 256K, so i am looking to change plan (at around $50).
It doesnt have to be full speed, but at least 1Mbps.

i would like to find another similar plan if they are still around, so far i have found 3 possible plans, first in worldnet's version of 'go large' but after reading through these forums they dont look so flash.

next is Slingshot with their 2Mbps, 2GB plan for $30 + a 30GB data block for $25
http://www.slingshot.co.nz/DesktopDefault.aspx?tabindex=999&tabid=11&subnav=19

and last is a go large plan from CyberXpress (anyone herd of them?) for $50

http://www.cyberxpress.co.nz/connections/highperformance.php

if anyone knows of better plans please say so (and please dont say 'go woth Xnet' it will cost too much with them to get the same cap)

Thanks :D

Hi

Just remember with the Xnet plans you only pay for the data that you use. So unless you are using the whole 20gigs a month
I say go with Xnet.

If you need interleaving OFF then you need a  Slingshot max plan as mentioned in there forum.

I think you will have to wait until December, when you can get a dsl line without the phone services,
before you can get a fixed 90kbytes/sec connection.

Orcon offer Interleaving OFF by default, on most of their plans, TelstraClear PDQ offer Interleaving OFF as an option, so does Xnet.

Trunks2, I do not think you understand how XNet works. XNet is $34 per month for FS/128k plus you pay only for as much data as you use at $1 per GB. So 30GB will cost you $64 which is only $9 more than Slingshot but will be cheaper the months you do not use your full cap. Also, you can change your cap on-line to whatever you want it to be, or elect it to be unlimited. But as far as I know they are the only people that charge you only for what you use instead of a fixed fee for the full cap. So your comment about XNet being too expensive is invalid. Also, the best technical support around.

I dont think it's 'invalid' at all to consider XNet too expensive - the fact of the matter is that it's more expensive to get 30gb on XNet than most other ISP's. For me, the flexibility of their plans FAR outweighs the slightly more expensive cost, but if someone is going to use 20 - 30gb per month every month, XNet may not be the best value.

On the contrary, it's perfectly valid. You only pay for what you use, but he specifically was asking about the unlimited plans. Unlimited usage on Xnet would cost an unlimited amount of money, thus is too expensive. I used an average of slightly over 50GB/month (limited primarily by poor connection quality) before ihug changed Broadband 3. That would cost $85.15 from Xnet. Surely there's a cheaper unlimited plan out there somewhere? I don't game, nor do I use VoIP. I'd rather simply be able to download as much as possible for my money.

I am one of you guys what gave up on Ihug's broadband 3 as well. I did some research on finding the similar unlimited plan also before I went to Actrix.

Honestly, there is no other similar plan out there compare to the ex-broadband 3. Orcon offers a zero-shock plan but capped at 20GB, Worldnet Flat plans capped daily data usage to 700MB. CyberXpress's flat rate plan looks the best so far, as it allows you to download as much as you can between midnight - 5:00pm everyday.  It does have a data cap 700MB applys only to peak time which is between 5:00pm to midnight.  I will be very interested in hearing from someone who has any experience with them before.

I have spent a reasonable amount of time considering Xnet and Actrix before I decided to go ahead with Actirx. The reason is that I am sure I will go over 30GB or whatever GB you selected for your plan, which makes the Xnet's "you pay what you used" policy useless to me at all. Since they are not offering one free VFX VoIP anymore for their broadband customer, plus their price is a bit dear compare with what I usually paid with Ihug's ex-broadband 3. I therefore chose Actrix.

Having been with Actrix for less than 1 month, I now feel quiet painful. The initial reason for me to join them was that they have daily cap, you pick the cap (700MB or 1GB etc). If you go over the cap your speed will be reduced to 64kbps until 2:00am next day morning. That looks to me that I can get full speed at the start everyday, instead of surfering dial-up speed for the last 10 days of the month or so. That still applys, but what is really killing me is that the reset time 2:00am. In other words, if you want to go over your cap, you should only do that after bed time, which is usually 12:00am in my case. If you go over earlier, your speed will be reduced earlier, say 10:00pm. Sure you don't want to be surfing the Internet with 64kbps before you go to bed. Thus I have only 2 hours to push my daily cap. It is way too little of time for me to download things.

The other thing with Actrix is that the speed I can get from home is slower than what I got from ihug, plus they don't allow cellphone call to their 0800 number. I am now really dying for a good plan, but I know I am not going to get any in these few month where things get changed a lot with LLU. Hopefully we can get some good one in this Christmas.

Just confirmed with CyberXpress (Plain Communications Ltd.) that they are not offering flat rate plan anymore to residential customers.

it would seem that the best thing for me to do is to go to slingshot for their 2Mb/32GB for $55 :D
