Ok, so I haven't lived in NZ for the last few years, but I'm back over the holidays. Due to the recent pricing changes regarding home phone lines, it's time to switch our internet to something more suitable. However, I'm way out of touch about what ISPs are good in NZ and need some advice.
Usage needs are sporadic, my mother barely uses any internet (maybe 5-10gb a month?), but when I am back I tend to at least 50-60gb per month. So ideally we'd be looking for an isp that can change between unlimited and a cheaper plan as needed. (Is this even possible in NZ?)
We've just had a new cabinet put in where we live, but I'm pretty sure we can't get anything better than ADSL. Definitely no UFB here. We live around Wanaka, in the South Island. Also, we aren't particularly attached to our phone line, and are happy to give it up for some good naked DSL type plan.
However, I will also be doing this for a family friend as well, and they require a phone line.
So yeah, 3 questions.
1) What is the best ISP for Naked DSL, with a relatively cheap unlimited plan?
2) What is the best ISP for an unlimited plan with a home line bundled?
3) Haven't used naked DSL before, our modem/router is a netgear N600, will we need to purchase a different one to use naked DSL?
Expect both places to be using p2p downloading at a relatively large rate, so no shaping etc. I've heard about this happening here?
I know spark/telecom is meant to be one of the better ISPs, but my mother hates them, so they are probably out. Their prices seem quite expensive as well.
Any other questions, feel free to ask.
Cheers in advance.
