Hi All,

Hope somone call help with this problem. We have two PC's, a desktop and a laptop.

The laptop connects wirelessly to a router Dlink DI524, and the desktop via the ethernet cable to the LAN port on the DI524.

The DI524 then connects via WAN on DI524 to the Belkin F5D5730au ADSL Modem/Router.

The problem is that the internet connection seems to be intermittent.

When it drops out it drops out for both computers.

Both the DI524 and the Belkin have DHCP turned on.

--- / / ----+
-----------------------------

When the internet is off I can still ping both the Belkin (10.1.1.1) and the Dlink (192.168.0.1) but nothing outside of those two, even using IP's.

A tracert also stops at the Belkin.

The Belkin really does look like crap, and I cant see a half bridge mode option either.

Someone suggested putting the cable from the belkin into the LAN port instead of WAN, or option 2, leave it in the WAN and set the Dlink to a static IP on the WAN side, probably 10.1.1.2.

Love to hear what other people are doing?

A log from the Dlink shows some connection issues between the Belkin and the Dlink. Also when the connection is down plugging the Belkin in directly to the PC allows access to the internet, so the ADSL is fine.

Help

I have not read your setup and problem in depth, but the questions is why double NAT route, why not just use the Belkin as system router and DHCP server, turn the DHCP off in the Dlink, connect that DLink to the Belkin via a LAN port (ie have nothing connected to the DLinks WAN port). this will essentially turn your Dlink into an layerII AP only mode, no traffic will pass via the Dlinks NATrouter/firewall that will all be provided by the Belkin.

I have a Belkin router (not the one you have but one with an internal WiFi AP) and also have a Dlink DI524-UP connected, however in my situation the DLink is connected via the Wan port as it provides a Tomizone HotSpot to our commercial premises (1km down the road via a Motorola 5.7GHz Canopy link).

Sounds like a plan - will try it.

Does this mean by computers will be assigned IP's by the Belkin?

yep, basically all pc's and the Dlink and Belkin will all be on the same layerII plane, therefore in the need to be in the same TCP address space, only the unconnected WAN port of the Dlink will live in a empty world of its own. Only one DHCP server is needed to serve out addresses, and that should be the key gateway/NatRouter, ie the Belkin.

Hmmm, I tried to turn off DHCP on the Dlink and plugged the WAN cable into a LAN port.

Did a repair on the PC, but still didnt work.

Screenies of the settings I used here:

It looks like the PC is still getting a 192.168.0.x IP, when it should be getting a 10.1.1.x - what did I do wrong?

You need to renew your DHCP leases, the PC is still retaining its IP address from the DLink. Use the  "ipconfig renew" command to get your pc to dump its current lease and get a new address off the Belkin.
