Can anyone suggest a/some good routers?

especially those for getting the highest speed possible on bad lines?

I heard the Nokia M1122 was good, would it still be good?

I get good speeds with Zyxel ADSL routers, but you can get frequent re-syncs if you are a long way from exchange. Dynalink, although are not the favourite amongst techies, are also quite stable on a bad line, but with a trade off in speed.

Hi. I have just been this way and it seems a perennial subject here. I offer this unscientific distilation of much forum reading all over the web.

It seems as if Netgear DG834G and Link Sys are the Modem/routers favoured for reliability, good performance and ease of set up. There seems considerable unhappiness with Dlink with many observations of inconsistent performance - dropouts etc.

I have had a harrowing time getting consistent ADSL into our office and the short story is that the Netgear DG834G has quickly proved to be excellent technology to this aged layperson. If you do a google search for ADSL modems + reviews, I am sure you will quickly get a similar picture. I guess we dont want to reinvent the wheel do we. Cool

All the best in your search

I will second the Netgear DG834G, I get very good speeds and it is very reliable.

Linksys AG241 Router ADSL2 compliant is what I use, very reliable, well priced ($116.00) if you shop around.

The Nokia M1122 is not ADSL2 compliant IIRC, so it would not be wise to purchase one of these due to lack of future proof ability.

Well since I'm only getting 3mbit down my line on a good day, dunno when ADSL2+ will be available here...

There's a few M1122's cheap on trademe so I might get one anyway - provided they're still good for normal ADSL?

What area do you live in & do you know how far away from your local exchange are you? I can't see any point in getting out dated equipment, if anything, getting the latest & greatest may well improve your performance. What modem or router do you currently have?

I'm in waitakere, about 4k from exchange (calculated from attenuation)

I've got the free DSL-502T from xtra (yeah I know it's not great) I get 3mbit with it, but disconnections also.

Running a Dynalink RTA-230 I get 2mbit with no problems but I want 3mbit if I can get it

I'm in Waitakere too, and suspect this exchange is having problems. I'm 5Km+ away from exchange, get 3M+ on my Zyxel, but some disconnects. 2M on my Dynalink, very few disconnects. Connection is all good during day, but at night turns to custard.
Are you on a 810 number? Would like to do some troubleshooting with you if you are.

Cheers Fraser

Number's 813 here, might be similar. I'm in sunnyvale area more specifically.

2Mbit on the dynalink is perfect, no disconnections, but 3mbit with the d-link it won't go 15 minutes without dropping out

That's that Glen Eden exchange, different to the exchange I'm on. Ah well, hope you find a good router anyways.

D-Link modems/routers are poor quality & renowned for having disconnection issues, of which you have also proven with both your low sync rate & getting D/C every 15 minutes.

Unfortunately, you are also long way from your local exchange which of course will not help your download speed/sync rate at all, however if I were you, I would get a Linksys AG241 Router, this will significantly improve your D/C's & may also improve your download speed/sync rate a little & it is ADSL2 compliant.

I use to have D/C problems like yourself & low sync rates (3Mbit with a Alcatel Speedtouch Modem, I live 2.94km from my exchange), now I don't have any D/C issues & sync at 5.8Mbit, so yes I am very happy with my Linksys AG241 Router & it has made a huge difference for me.

I recommend that if you see a dynalink RTA1320 that you run the other direction as fast as you can.

For about the last 2 weeks or so, the one here has being locking up 4-5 times a day needing a power cycle, and I dont know if its me but it seems to even by running hotter then in the past.

Finally motivated us to find a power supply for the old billion that works ok but gets crap speeds. After getting rid of the dynalink pings are more stable and its being over a day without a restart.
