Quick question: How long "should" it take for Chorus to confirm a UFB installation date? My order was submitted to Chorus 11 days ago and I don't yet have an install date (for a standalone house with no shared driveway or other consent requirements). Chorus' site is very light on timeframes; how long is this sort of thing supposed to take?

Constrast with a coworker on Spark who had it installed within three days of ordering...

Depends what area and Town you live in. In Rotorua it's about a week at the moment , but talking to the chorus guy installing mine , they are not flat out yet.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

My ISP has requested an update from Chorus although apparently the odds aren't good of getting it before Christmas :(

I wish that Chorus wouldn't advertise dates if they can't stick to them. The original estimate for my street was September, then it moved to November, and now it's mid-December and looking like it won't be installed until January. Meanwhile Chorus is making statements to the media that the rollout is ahead of schedule!

The roll out could be ahead of schedule you are one street of many getting UFB

My install took 8 months from the date UFB was available in my street. No point getting stressed about it.

I should've waited a little longer... I now have a confirmed install date of 5 Jan :)

We are in central Auckland, and have had UFB on our street for a long time now.

We decided to get it with Spark on 17/10/14...

24/10/14 - Spark updates that we need to get consent from ROW owners as we live in a block of 4 townhouses... We did this directly with Chorus through my B/C (as i am the Chairperson, so that made it much easier as well).

12/11/14 - Spark finally says we got the okay from everyone affected and now they just need to scope and design the work - someone from Chorus already came and scoped the work before this date, and I was on site with him.

6/12/14 - We got the same email from Spark, saying they got the go ahead and waiting on the scope and design to be done. We have called a few times, and have just been told the scope just probably haven't been submitted yet, and sometimes it takes up to a few months to complete? Is this true? has anyone had similar experiences?

Its now 14/1/15... we still have heard nothing from Spark :(.

The simple answer is yes - the design of yours is probably one of hundreds (if not thousands) of small design jobs that are delt with first in first out (not just UFB) - once the design has been completed and quoted it is sent from the design contractor to Chorus for approval - it may be regected & requires redesign etc - once accepted the build phaze commences (sub contractors, materilas & personal scheduling etc)

and dont forget while this is going on most of the country as just taken a 2 to 3 week break :-)

It was for all 4 properties, he checked to make sure the current copper service duct was not blocked and that the UFB cables can go through. He also checked to see if the UFB from the street can enter our property. The next step of the property I was told, is that contractors will come and make that connection between the street and our service duct. Then another visit where Spark will actually connect it into my house.

We just called Spark this morning, they said after the order is placed, we have to deal with Chorus for installation updates, although last year when we called Chorus, we were told to contact our ISP :(... Spark asked me to call another number, which turned out to be a subcontractor who said they have not received our order but can see that we are on the system, and to go back and contact Spark again.... Neverending minutes wasted on waiting for the spark call back service... that is always off by like 10-20mins to the time frame they expect.

When Chorus and their subcontactors have come up with a mutualy acceptable solution for all four units then I would suspect a rep from the subcontractors will contact you (as the BC rep) for scheduling and access arangements for their part of the install.

When this part of the instal is competed the job will be handed back to Chorus as ready for individual connections , then the Chorus Install Contactors will make contact with you for the final installation times and access etc.

Spark do not do any of the physical installation at your end.

But as I commented on in my first relpy to your question - I suspect that your job is in the design/quote/acceptance stage - this can take a while - I know some jobs that have taken over 8 mths (if not over 12) from request to install It dpends on so many factors (not the least being holidays)

We are still waiting for Spark to call us back as well. I just wished this waiting period would count towards the 12 months contract period... haha.

I knew this would happen... If i whine about this, it was gonna come back to bite me.

Just to update, Spark never did call us back, but they must have done something. Late this afternoon, we got a call from the subcontractor that is going to come tomorrow morning to connect the UFB into our existing copper service. Then we just have to wait for the installation into our house! :D

Can't wait.

Just to clarify VisionStream is just for the external wiring, I am sure internal wiring (ONT etc etc) are done by a separate team.

Indeed. My ISP went as far as saying that if I could get contact details out of the contractors then I'd have much better access to the latest information. I ended up nabbing the phone number from caller ID :)

Internal and external were both done by Transfield at my place.
