Hey ive just heard about the lastest deal from vodafone/ihug, which gives free broadband for 12 months if you have an On Account mobile plan with Vodafone!!!!

Does anyone know of any catches to this, it seems way better than the other free broadband deal where you have to buy national calling for $20????

No catches at all, all you need to sign up to is ihug landline $41 per month and a You Choose mobile plan starting at $19.95 per month and you get the 1Gb ihug broadband plan for 12 months for free (or the equivalent worth if you need a higher data plan).

Simple as that, no hidden costs etc...

I don't think you need to have an On Account Mobile Plan with Vodafone to be eligible for the Vodafone Free Broadband Deal, but I could be wrong.

OK, time to down my fine glass of pinot noir (Rabbit Ranch. Yum).

The deal is this:

IF you bring your landline to Vodafone ($41/month) AND you have any You Choose plan on your mobile (including all the cool new packages we launched last week) THEN we'll give you Broadband1 free for 12 months.

Broadband1 consists of full speed down, 128kbit/s up and 1GB of data.

I know, you guys will use 1GB in about eight minutes.

So, you can take the discount of $30/month and apply it to the higher grade plans. I get 5GB a month. From now on that'll cost me a tenner. Nice.

This complements our other offer of Fixed line plus Tolls Package = Free broadband. This one is Fixed line plus Mobile = free broadband.

Free as in the plan is free. You'll still need a modem/router but I'm guessing you guys are OK for those.

How's that sound?

Cheers

Paul

It's free if you're only going to get through a gig of traffic. Otherwise it amounts to a $30 discount on Ihug's larger plans. Better than a poke in the eye with a banana I guess. What's Ihug's performance like these days?

You're also locked in under a contract, not the smartest idea right now with all the changes coming up with naked ADSL plans etc.

Twelve months is the contract and frankly, a year from now everything will have changed.

Unbundling.

HSDPA.

Naked DSL.

VDSL2.

mmmmmmmmm, progress.

Expect a lot of specials to come with fixed term contracts to lock you into more than just ADSL or just phone services or just...  Competition is rising and companies want to get more of your bills coming to them rather than just one to make it worth it.  You will be amazed how much it cost to keep track of one customer, sending more than one bill to one customer makes it worth it.  XNet still do not lock you into any contract (unless you call "1 month" a contract) and you start paying only the month following the service is connected.  They do that as they know they have a good service and don't need to lock you into any contract.  Anyway, as was already said there are a lot happening over the next few months and things will look a lot different next year.  I will not sign any contract until the new services are announced.

(I can't comment on Ihug's speed but I can say I've only once been below 3Mbps with XNet and that was due to a large uptake a month ago.  Within 5 days they increased their capacity and I was back up at almost 4Gbps.)
