Hi there,

I have been trying to get this card working under linux since the start of the year. I have asked around on linux forums with no luck yet, (see http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/showthread.php?t=558725 for more info about my efforts) Hopefully since this is a NZ forum someone might be using the same card!

This is as much as I can get out of my computer:

It looks promising but I just can't get the card to light up let alone connect.
Can anyone out there help? I'm dying to get rid of the dual boot situation, this is my only windows tie.

what Linux distro are you using? and what kernel version? (uname -a)
most of these work out of the box and simply act as a serial port (ie /dev/ttyS3 or similar)

I'm using Ubuntu Feisty Fawn (7.04) with 2.6.20-16-generic kernel I think.

Thanks for the reply. I'll swap into linux and have a fiddle now. Would you please be able to tell me how I could find out what port it's on?

take a look at your syslog while you insert the device. System -> Administration -> System Log

hopefully, the driver will print some messages to the syslog telling you the tty device it is assigned, from there you should just configure it as you would a dialup connection ( System -> Administration -> Network and double click modem) dialing #777 if you're using Telecom EVDO/CDMA but I am used to PPPoE situations with Woosh so I can't lend any first-hand experience with this card sorry.

any logs you can paste here generated from the device's insertion would be a great help

I'm finally making getting somewhere! This fabulous little tutorial has made the lights come on:

I'm trying to connect now but after a few hours I haven't had any luck. I'm using the Network tools in the System menu as you suggested. I now know it's on 'ttyIPWp0' and I'm dialing '*99#' as I have been told by the woosh wireless tech support once upon a time.

I've been monitoring what's happening in the /var/log/syslog file and it seems to try connect and then I get the error: 'CHAP authentication failed: Bad Password' but I know the password is correct.

Any ideas?

run this in a terminal or by pressing Alt-F2 "gksudo gedit /etc/ppp/chap-secrets"

see if your username and password is in there, if it isn't the modem configuration tool diddn't do it's job and you'll need to add your credentials into that file like so:

joe.bloggs * my_password

theres another file to check, /etc/ppp/pap-secrets and it would pay to have your username and password in both those files so PAP will work in the case of broken CHAP

Hey! Thank you for all your help, I return with a success story.

I checked the chap and pap and they both were right. In the end I added the "@woosh.co.nz" to the username and woopee! All systems are go. I am writing this from linux right now!

If anyone else finds this thread, the essential drivers that solved my problem can be found at:
