Is it just me, or have you guys noticed Chorus cabinets with their doors open more often lately? I've seen it quite a bit around Christchurch mostly with cross-connect cabinets or the cross connect bay of whisper cabinets

I've also found the attitude of Chorus when I report this to vary. Earlier in the week I called 0800 222 638 which is on a sticker on Whisper cabinets, and the operator took five minutes of my time taking down details. Today I called the number and was told I had the wrong number, they would transfer me, but I insisted that that operator wrote down the details and pass it on internally themselves.

Do Chorus care anymore?
Am I over-reacting? When I see an open cabinet I think of how many hours it would take to fix the damage that could done in a matter of minutes, even by a kid

If it was an older cabinet the number probably goes to Telecom Faults not chorus :)
But yes, The guys in Ellerslie are forever leaving the cabinet doors (the one by the public toilets and park) open or closed by a rock

I believe that is the Graffiti line.  The correct number to call is 0800 4 NETWORK (0800 463 896) - Option 2 (Network Damage).  If the Damage is dangerous, choose the Health & Safety option (4) instead.

If the damage is on your property, or affecting your own service, you should call your Retail Service Provider and log a fault.

I notice that the UFB cabinet in my street has been tagged on its top surface. Should I call it in?

To tell the truth, it matches all the other tagging on fences, etc in my neighbourhood. Must all be by the same "artist."

Interesting you mention it.
There is a cabinet in hawkes bay which was wrapped closed by a wire that had come loose.
No one seems to have fixed it in a few months so I pulled over the other day and took some photos of the inside.
Interesting stuff.
Anyhow i found a few blocks of wood nearby and put one in to hold it closed tighter.

Very cool, interesting to see a couple of BT jacks in there.

I must say I have been disappointed when I see a cabinet with its doors open, and it's just a boring cross connect. Would be cool to have a look at one with active gear for a change!

Yea I had a really hard time getting in touch with someone when I spotted that the cabinet on Sandringham Rd (St Lukes) was left open.

They need to stick a 'report damage' sticker on the boxes so folks who want to notify them can.

Above one is an active ADSL1 cabinet. with the cross connects, Alcatel voice gear, Nokia ASAM and power gear to the right.

I wonder if you can make toll calls from that phone inside the cabinet. That might get some action from Chorus.

No ADSL on that cabinet.
Could possibly be SHDSL uplink but none serving customers - telephone only.

The old PCM and multiplex gear facinates me - more so than modern stuff.
