Hey guys,
I have a wierd problem! Up until a little while ago, I had a Puretek PT-3812 honking piece of crap adsl modem. It was going fine until it went kaput. I have a Linksys ADSL2MUE as a backup, which I used while I find a new modem.
Upon the recommendation of a good friend, as well as general googling, I decided upon the Dynalink RTA1025W (http://www.dynalink.com.au/modemsadsl_cur.htm?prod=RTA1025W). The modem works fine, will everything seemingly okay, apart from the speed.
The RTA1025W, on average, connects at about 1800-1900 Kbps. In comparison, my now dead Puretek connected at about 3800 Kbps. The stopgap Linksys connects at 5000 Kbps average, sometimes hitting 6000 Kbps, before and after connecting the Dynalink.
I know that these are line speeds and not necessarily download speeds, however they are proportional. On the Dynalink, I get a max download speed of 200 KBps from Citylink. On the Puretek, I used to get a maximum of 320 KBps, and on the Linksys I get 400+ KBps.
I have taken the modem to a mate's place, which is in a different suburb about 20 km away, and it connects at 4800 Kbps.
I have no idea what's going on, which is why I've posted here, to give you wise heads a challenge!
Any help would be much appreciated,
Vipul
