HEY - I AM THE SAME!

The last week is terrible.  I'm in Christchurch on Wired Broadband - the old unlimited Orbit Flat Rate.

I used to get:  National 2500  and International 2100

I now get:  National 2500  and International 75 !!!!!!????

Rang the helldesk and got messed around with them trying to get me to do isolation tests etc etc.  Then got told that "international speeds will always be slower"..... HELLO???  ARE YOU LISTENING????  International Speeds of 75kpbs??

Ended up logging a tech support call and haven't heard anything back after the promised 48 hours.....

Anyone else?

Me too. On wired ADSL in Wellington.
4 days ago could download Usenet data at 260kbps (from server in US). Now am lucky to reach 50kbps (currently sitting at 30).
Haven't rung anyone yet but will. Am on (old) unlimited account & thought they were picking on me as I've DL'd quite a lot of data recently.
Looks like its a few people then.
Another complaint on its way.
Anyone report back if they get a response?
Cheers

I'm on wired ADSL in Christchurch (on the old flat rate plan). A week or so ago, I was getting great speeds (also via Usenet), especially in the mornings.

Last few days, I'm getting very slow speeds to international servers (using speedtest.net), while local servers are racing along.

Does anyone know if this is an international gateway thing? Are they rateshaping people? It's slightly reassuring to know that it's not just me but I'm starting to wonder whether I should jump ship.

I'm probably just being paranoid, but I noticed the speed decrease around the time I hit 10gb downloaded. Is it possible they're rateshaping people who get past that point (since, after all, the $49.95 plan these days only buys you that much...)?

Wired ADSL Christchurch - Belfast exchange. Belkin syncs@11551 kbps with attenuation of 34 dB downstream (ADSL1 profile was only 29 dB). Distance to exchange to walk is 1.4 km but attenuation indicates over 2 km.

So that implies it's not any problem with the international connection anywhere. A few days ago, I could get speeds of ~4000kpbs regularly, at least in the mornings.

Can I ask: are you on the unlimited plan or a capped plan? If you're on the unlimited plan, have you downloaded much data this month?

In addition to my previous post, I noticed from my Usenet logs the last few days that at precisely 7am I drop from 260kbps to 20-30kbps which is maintained throughout the day until midnight (I've queued stuff up around these times to see if they really are throttling). So despite having an 'unlimited' plan & denials from Woosh when I signed up that they would ever throttle anything, they are. This would seem to apply to all 5 ports I use to access my (paid for overseas) newserver.
Did anyone receive notification of changes in their Terms & Conditions? So far emails have elicited no reply (holiday weekend I presume).
At times I'm reaching slower than dial-up (<10kbps). I haven't had this for 4 years when I gave up dial-up. Progress!

Hi all,

I am also on Orbit Flatrate in Auckland (ADSL customer). I am getting very slow speeds lately. From your comments, I am sure that Woosh is intentionally doing it. The current speed test results are as follows:

San Jose, CA:

Downloads: 91 kbps
Uploads: 93 kbps

Auckland:

Downloads: 3866 kbps
Uploads: 130 kbps

A ratio of 3866/91 = 42.5 = blatant cheating by Woosh!

Just 3 weeks left before the contract ends. :)

Yes,  this is consistant with me as well.

Orbit Flat Rate for about a year no worries.  Now International speed throttled to under 100 kb/s

Essentially I cannot use Usenet,  YouTube,  Peer to peer,  or even Flash websites overseas.

I'm paying for something I'm not receiving.

Previous usage was quite high,  but not for this month when the throttling kicked in:

August  44Gig,  September 32Gig,  October 6Gig then whammo.... so it's not a 10Gig cap issue.

Everyone with this issue please logon to the "My Account" section at www.woosh.com and register a compliant to "Customer Support" - Please post any response or explanation you receive here.

Just tried to access Speedtest & the flash download timed-out! What does this say about international traffic?
Woosh - ow about renaming to Thud?
Would encourage others to follow KnumbKnuts suggestion & complain vociferously to Woosh. I just have again & will continue to do so until I get an answer.

Latest results today will now be loding a complaint as many others are having the same issue I operate a voip service with xnet and with voipfone based in the UK when I tried a called to there server to test latency/delay when I spoke it took nearly a minute to hear what I said back (usually only 0.1~0.2 sec )

I only have until 9 Nov before my year is up and then world xchange here I come you will have a new customer unless another ISP can offer a better deal without a 1 year contract

How do i get img to display properly ?

This I hope will get a respone about the issue I wonder how long it will take ? below the message I just sent them

https://www.speedtest.net/result/194568044.png

This is the appalling spped I am getting along with several other people on unlimited plans and from the information I have obtained from show that this is only an issue on international traffic I have also discovered that this is an issue only related to unlimited plans and not other plans

All of this is going to push customers away from your company and sign up with other ISP's do you really want this ? and if not what are your immediate plans to rectify this problem ?

I have also discovered that this is not an issue with using more than 10GB of traffic in 1 month as one could assume but a constant problem for the last week or so although even if this was the case I would expect to the throttled back to 256Kb/s

I would assume that the terms and conditions of the contract would be in breach here as these speeds are not considered reasonable when it is slower than dial up

I look forward to hearing a response back very shortly about this issue that is affecting many of your customers up and down the country

Many thanks

Just received this after e-mailing them yesterday:

We aware of the slow International traffic issue and our network engineers are in the process of investigating it and will keep you informed of any relevant developments that may arise.

Woosh's response:

"Thanks for your email. We are aware of speed issues, this has been fowarded onto our engineers to look into. We hope to have it resolved shortly."
