Help!!

I am looking for a dual adsl connection router to enable twin ADSL connections to be run off the same router..

Reason, customer operating large infrastructure in rural area with no One office access but can get ADSL. By teaming we can supply enough bandwidth for VOIP and for data until One office or Fibre is able to be put in.

Advice would be handy

Buying two adsl routers and use a device behind them to load balance might be cheaper - routers with dual adsl interfaces will tend to be in the enterprise space.

I have a netgear FVS336 Dual WAN gigabit firewall SSL IPSEC VPN router with 2 speedlink modems on 2 seperate adsl enabled lines, I can set it to max the load, share the load, or use one adsl, (automatic monitor traffic I set the router when to switch) and then switch to the other once it gets to its download cap works very well for our needs ensuring maximising our connection

ASDL2+ supports agregate lines(port bonding), ie you can combine two lines for a potential 48Mb/s DS, dunno if Telecom intend to support this. I understand Cisco have modems that support this.

You'll need a load balancer like suggested and two seperate adsl modems, ascent has a dual wan load balancer with 4 lan ports here

Edit: you could always have two single connections and split the load your self, it would be a bit cheaper.

Another option is the Linksys RV042.

For price vs. ease I too vouch for the RV042...

The best option in my opinion is the Fortigate 50B, these retail for around $1100 including a year subscription to AV/AntiSpam and Intrusion prevention services, they have dual WAN's and support IPSEC, OSPF, BGP, RIP, SSL VPN's and a whole lot more. Quite a few large NZ companies use the larger models as do some of the big hosting centres.

One of the nice things about them is that you can do load balancing, or failover, and it will also fail any IPSEC tunnels over.  You can even run dual tunnels and use OSPF to fail between them.

I may be biased as I am the Fortinet trainer for NZ, but I also work with Juniper and Cisco gear on a daily basis, and the Fortinet stuff feature wise is much more advanced.

So saying that, if you need any help, I am only an email or phone call away.

Regards,

Andrew
