http://www.trademe.co.nz/computers/networking-modems/other/auction-894808978.htm

Just spotted this on trademe and I wonder if this is actually legal. Fairly sure it isn't.

I suppose the important question is whether it's from Northpower or whether it was actually purchased legitimately (although I can guess which is the case).

They are the LFC's property and normally locked to the address, so selling one is a bit of a dumb idea as they only work at the address they were setup in.

Wonder how long it'll take to be removed. Have also seen auctions for Chorus and Enable ONTs on Trademe in the past which have been removed.

Hi, they are owned by the LfC and can not be sold. They are no good to anyone anyway without the LfC coming to install fibre at the address and are provided for "free" as they belong to the LFC

I've submitted a question to that auction "Are you aware that these ONTs can only be used at the physical address that they were initially set up at?"

No, its still there, they are too cheap to withdraw it so have edited it.

Did either of you actually report it or just ask a question?

No I reported it. As soon as I found out it was a really bad idea for someone to sell one of these.

I wonder if an ISP/LFC can give us a price quote on a brand new unit. No way it goes for $50 bucks.

I only submitted my question.

I found a Chorus ONT at a second hand building parts supplier last year. InstallerUFB went and picked it up from them as it is still Chorus' property.

I remember that! That's how I learned that they're "coded" to the property, and that people apparently have a habit of nicking the power supply.

Inline power injectors for masthead TV amplifiers - a major problem.
When someone moves out of a house, they just take all the cables with them, not realising that one of them is a power supply that sends power up to the sigmal amplifier at the tv antenna.
