Hi all,

Currently we have a UFB 100/100 Unlimited Business Fibre connection (uses the Chorus network, used to be on Unison), just wondering if it is possible to get Gigabit Fibre when your not located in the "Gigatown"? Currently located in Rotorua.

I have had a search around but none of the usual providers seem to offer this, all I can find is a maximum of 200 down. Any providers out there that offer 1000/1000 Unlimited Fibre?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Getting business fibre from Chorus will require deep pockets. As it will be point to point fibre not GPON like what is used in UFB then I think you wouldn't get much change out of 10k for install. Ans be looking at at least a few k per month for the service.

We already have Business Fibre from Chorus, just looking to increase the speed upto 1000/1000 instead of our current 100/100

Currently we are paying for a managed system (through a 3rd party) which includes routers and other equipment as well as support around $700 a month. so under the $1000 per month if that is possible.

timmmay: Curious what you're doing that needs more than 100/100?

Just the amount of people on location using the internet ,can slow down speeds to the point were at the busier times of the day. We start getting timeout errors.

Would anybody offer it as 1000/1000 unlimited? At the right price, yes.

No way you'd get it for anywhere close to $1000 in Rotorua

Yea I figured it was a long shot, appreciate the replies though. Perhaps in a couple of years it will be available just like a 100/100 is available now.

Would an installation really cost $10,000? I thought that the whole design of the UFB network was for those who wanted to use a p2p connection (i.e. not PON) then the fibres could be removed from the prism and patched straight back to their own connectors. I.e. the same fibres into the premise could be used for either PON or p2p?

If not, unless there was an amazing technical reason why not I would see that as a major failing of the UFB design.

Surely you could at least get 200/200. And if you still need more, Just order 4x 200/200 connections. (fill up all 4 data ports on the ONT) Then you will have 800/800. And just divide your users into 4 equal groups and stick each group on 1 of the 200/200 connections.

This would probally still be cheaper than what you are currently paying as well.

There must be something else going (wrong) in your network if you are getting timeout errors on webpages on a 100/100 connection. Even if you had 100 people hitting go at exactly the same time, I'd doubt your internet connection would be the issue.

How many people at work there? Are thing like torrent blocked by default (should be in a corporate environment). I'd be looking at switching and routing rather than the speed of your net connection.
At our office, we are on a Managed WAN with a 30mbps pipe (both ways). about 40 people, never had an internet issue like you mention (timing out), and even when I need to download something it is fine (also, Netflix works well on our Boardroom Smart TVs - full HD).

It is readily available - but being a CIR product will never be anywhere near the same pricepoint as UFB which is shared bandwidth.
