So after getting our first UFB letter from chorus ("Your streets ahead") we now got the letter saying work will commence on our street (a small cul-de-sac in Balmoral, Auckland) on 11 June and all going well should be done around 20 June; very exciting!  But, I couldn't see an indication in the letter on whether this means UFB will be available after that date, or there's more waiting time after that?

Mine went live about a month after they put fibre on the poles.

As I understand it, it probably takes a month or so after the fiber has been laid until it's available. However the process of getting it connected can take anything from 10 days to years, depending on your circumstances. A standard house should be easy, but in my case the telco had to get permission to use the power poles from Wellington Electricity, which took 8 months to resolve.

In summary, apply, but don't cancel your old connection until UFB is in and has been working for a couple of weeks. You'll pay a little more but Internet is almost a utility these days, going without is annoying.

Thanks guys. Yeah, it's a standard house though we're also renting, so hopefully shouldn't cause too many issues - I've already talked to Landlord about getting it installed, and after explaining the advantages of getting it done now he's almost as keen as me to get it installed.

Fiber was installed in my area beginning of March 2015 (finished in my street and area). Site says 1st August 2015, contacted the Ultra-fast fiber guys and was told there is a 3 month wait/test period :(
