We are due to have our UFB installed in two weeks time. I have been given a Linksys WRT1900AC router by a friend who no longer needs it. Is this all that's required to connect up to the ONT or will I still need the modem supplied by the RSP? Thinking if the Linksys router is sufficient I will decline the option supplied with the install and save some $$.

Thanks

Do WRT1900's support VLAN tagging yet? As you haven't said who the ISP is you'll need to tell us if it's needed or not.

ISP is Voyager. Not planning on using voice services at all. Mobiles with unlimited minutes will suffice.

So no modem required? Just hook the ONT straight to the WRT1900AC ?? if thats the case whe does one enter the customer account/logon details?

Many thanks

There is no modem for an UFB connection.

I don't know how exactly Voyager does it, but in many cases you don't even need a username/password, just plug it in and go.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Sorry for sounding like a complete idiot, but how exactly does that work? Voyager provision the service, so if I plug the Linksys router into the ONT, the internet will just work with no account details being entered or configured anywhere? That's the part I'm having trouble getting my head around.

Thanks

You would need to know what Voyager use as authentication - this will probably be either DHCP or PPPoE
