There is fibre at our gate, but getting it the ~100m to the house is going to be a problem. It would require tearing up 2/3rds of the driveway, because only 1/3rd has an excavatable grass strip beside it. However, the other 2/3rds does have a storm-water drain running down the side of it in the form of a concrete trench capped with removable concrete slabs.

This drain actually serves dual purposes already, as that's where the water supply for the house was reinstalled after the original one rotted in the earth. What's the probability that they could run a fibre line in that drain as well?

They could but they won't. Zero chance unfortunately.

Can you post a pic of the drain? There are a couple of people on here who work for chorus and might be able to give you an answer.

Ok. Considering that any fence is now fair game to attach fibre to, why not shove it in a drain even?

I would expect that they would love to just stuff it in there and be done with it.

Chorus have come across similar drains  that can be used instead of drilling or digging.  In principal, placing the ruggedized micro-duct in the drain is an acceptable practice - PROVIDED it is done properly.

We are currently revising our trenching procedures to document an acceptable approach to using a drain in this manner.  The new procedure will be ready to go out to service companies within the next month. e.g.:

If you have an order in the system with an ISP please DM your contact details to me & we will ensure that the option is investigated for you.
