We are off on holiday for two weeks to a remote part of the country. There is no cellphone signal in the house we are staying at, but there is a working landline telephone.

Are there any pre-paid dialup internet services left in NZ? I eventually found Netsurf ($20 for 20 hours) but wonder if there are any other prepaid providors?

have a chat to your current ISP - I know ours provides a dialup function in case the dsl dies...although never used it, so who knows if it still works :\

Thanks, yes I spoke to our ISP and it has discontinued all its dialup services - broadband and UFB only now from them.

I would cancel the holiday if it is somewhere with no broadband or cellular.

I think FreeNet still have an unlimited dial-up internet access for $5 per month pre-paid.

I'm spending a week away in the new year with no phones, TV, internet. Replacing them with family, friends, drinks and bbq's :)

I'm with richms.. I mean I'll leave the gaming PC at home for some holidays, but at minimum a laptop, smartphone and usually a tablet come with, and I expect connectivity!

When you are self-employed, as I am, you don't have the luxury of ignoring your clients for two weeks! So even dial up is OK to deal with e-mails.

You could carrier pigeon your replies to a place with connectivity?

In all seriousness, all the older dial-up providers like KOL and Paradise seem to have merged in to bigger outfits like Vodafone and Orcon. :(

No definitely no cell phone coverage, have stayed there every year for 15 years so know for sure. Local farmer gets his internet via satellite.

A poster above mentioned Freenet - looks good at $5 per month, but their 0800 contact number is dead, never a good sign.

Plenty of areas have no coverage at all.
I know that must sound really strange to some of you folks who've never taken time to explore your own country.

We tried to rate shape someone on our home network to 64kbps (which is faster than what v.92 56k modems do) and seriously the web was unusable these days unless you want to do something like telnet/ssh. I guess the web has just changed soo much in even the last 5 years.
