I recently finished a 3 month broadband promo with Slingshot (Slingshot Swift with 2 mb download speed) and while on it used their linespeed checker http://speedtest.slingshot.co.nz/ to test my connection.  From memory, it came back with 1.5 mb download and around 135 K upload.
I'm now back on dialup and am wondering about getting nDSL with FS/FS.  As I only got a max 1.5 mb download speed using the throttled 2 mb Swift will I see any improvement (in speed) with a FS/FS connection or is the 1.5 mb as good as it's going to get?
I should mention I live rurally about 200 metres from the Telecom roadside box.

thanks

Tim

having lived in so many places in the last wee while it seems (anecdotally somewhat) that the average line speed is 4mbps anywhere in the country!

My in-laws are rural (but only just) and also gets 1.5Mbps and sync not much more than that.  I think that is simply what you get in rural areas.  Actually, that is also the speed you get in South Africa where they are currently trialling 4Mbps!

I am in Pakuranga on an ADSL2+ enabled line which sync at 10Mbps but still get only 3.6Mbps downloads.  My ISP says that the exchange is ADSL2+ enabled for connections yet still running ADSL1 profiles for data throughput...  Some time ago there was an article that ADSL2+ will officially be launched sometime mid 2008, so I think what TCNZ is doing is upgrading exchanges and then with the official launch they will simply switch the profiles so everyone gets faster speeds at the same time.  I believe it is a marketing thing, gives them a big launch party rather than dragging it out.
