Just put a new router at my sisters place, its getting a 25dB noise margin on the downstream, and getting 7.6 megs or so, so I assume thats being limited by the old plan that they are on rather then anything else.

Is there a simple table that will say what speeds adsl2+ will give when available. We are already looking at changing plans, but orcon play the same game ihug do about a $10 charge for not taking calling and line rental to them, and the freedom is too much of a saver to move tolls and line off telecom.

Anyone know where the ellerslie exchange is for 579xxxx numbers? There about 400m away from the ellerslie town center.

Compare downstream attenuation figure with graph - http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies-archive.cfm/549601.html

Be aware that many of the Dlink routers are limited to 7.547 Mbps. See http://www.telecomwholesale.co.nz/adsl2plus and read coonsultation presentation 6 September 2007.
