I am pretty stoked that after 2 years of waiting our street got connected to UFB and we're not far off.

I have someone coming in on Friday (19th) to 'scope' with final stage of the installation booked for 29th. Are these projection accurate at all so we can expect this to be done on the 29th?

Is anyone able to advice what is the best place to put the ETP and the ONT?

Sounds about right sort of timeframe.

We have a cross-lease property so - that added quite a delay - even though the neighbors really expedited the sign-off.

They like to aim at having the ONT near your main TV if possible. The logic being that UFB is really good for media and most people are using for movies etc so its best to have the main connection near the TV.

Location of the ONT depends on wiring in  your house. If you have cable (or plan to run cable) it can go anywhere.

The setup is Street Fibre --> ONT -> CAT cable -> ISP Router -> internal network cabling (eg Wifi or CAT) to PCs/TVs etc

The CAT cable can be short patch cables or structured cabling as suits.

I personally put the ONT near where I have multiple PCs located and then over the next 6 months ran Cat5E to the TV and to a new NAS I located under the house

Being near multiple PCs meant I didn't need to put extra data points in but could go from the ISP router by 1m patch cables.

The ONT is quite bright in a dark room, with flashing orange and green LEDs.  I chose mine to be located in the garage, and as @Krazykid said above, have a 10m long Cat6 cable under the house to a socket in the living room where the ISP router is located.

The installer did that for me for free (I would have done it myself DIY otherwise), but officially the install is only free up to the point of the ONT placement, and any additional Cat6 cabling between ONT and Router is an additional charge.

This is a good thread on this topic:  http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=49&topicid=130845

And this was my install with ONT placement questions: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?topicid=151502

Thanks guys for the input. I did a bit of reading of the supplied links and had to exclude the ceiling cavity location that I had in mind. I will have to go with lounge but I reckon it will work out the best this way anyway as the media pc located there is the one machine using the most bandwidth.

Not to hijack the thread, but are there any restrictions on cable length between the ONT and my router?

We're on a private road and currently have plenty of time to think about potential problems frown

ONT to router is via Ethernet so as long as Ethernet reaches its about 100m with out something to boost the power
