no sure if Minaithnir2005 was gana finish this up so i thought i would, basicly he was running PPPOE we couldnt figure out what was wrong so he called his ISP and the server at his campus must of had some kind of lease rule on that only one device could be connected at a time witha 24hour interval between differnt devices.

so there were two suggestions the first the most pratical get a router with PPPOE support or wait 24hours every time he wanted to change from his laptop to xbox 360 to use the internet.

only reason i have posted this is i know how fustrating it is when you come across a post on a forum that is in archive and not sure what to do alwasy helpful if sombody posts a solution to the original question if it is solved cheers

i did have a third suggestion but not sure if it would work, find you mac/phisical address if running windows hit start button run type in 'cmd' a box will pop up type in 'ipconfig /all' then get phisical address go to addtitnal seetings on your 360 then go to network settings, edit settings aditinal settings and try making the alternate mac address the same as your PC it could work or i could be wrong may be worth a shot if you dont wont a router however if it does work you will defintly need to have your pc disconected from the wall and only the 360 pluged in cheers

Is this only isolated to UC's hostels? Perhaps worthwhile to keep this in note that if any more UC students who live at the campus hostel or using campus internet connection, to keep this in mind.

Good to hear the source of the problem is now known and a solution is available/suggested.

unsure my suggestion is your first stop is your ISP one phone call and we solved the issue. but its good to know and i lernt alot,

im currently doing the DipICT course here in new plymouth i have coverd networking but we did not cover PPPOE as its uncomon in NZ, but i do know that there are hundreds of things that can go strange with servers as i have set a couple up any way was happy to be involved so now i know Cool
