Had a new fiber connection installed for one of our staff today.

Placed the order myself - selected to leave the copper intact. (Double checked the order afterwards)

The chorus subcontractors came out, installed the fiber okay. But they left the telephone cable between the pillar on the roadside and the demarc across the driveway - and the landline doesnt work anymore.

Fun times.

Im still jealous though. She got this done in a month, yet at our office we have been waiting almost 6 months. Three service orders and 3 visits from chorus reps and they still cant give us a date for when the install will happen.

That is incredibly idiotic! I'd guess they used the copper to pull through the fibre and then saw the 'leave copper' note after and wanted to hurry off.... So rediculous though!

In that situation keeping copper intact long term would probably not be possible without trenching new conduit as the existing copper it was probably used as the draw wire. My assumption would be the tech believed the S/O relating to keeping copper intact are because the port to VoIP would happen after the fibre install was complete therefore a temporary run would be OK.

I bet they'll be head vs desk events occuring this morning!

Report it to chorus. There is page https://www.chorus.co.nz/contact-us/forms/email-us

They want/need to know.
They have had to employ a huge numbers of contractors and sub contractors.

Not a great job, but I don't see why she needed to keep the copper? Can she not move to voice services over the fiber?

Until the fibre data & voice are confirmed working I'd be wanting to keep the copper.

I wonder if the tech had never heard of attaching a second draw wire to the copper so that he could use it to pull the copper back to its original location!

Some of the conduit isn't big enough to fit both, but really without seeing it we can really only speculate.

It only needs to be thin, string or fishing line should do the job.
