While visiting my mother on the Coast last month, I saw this structure quite near her house (on her side of the road). If I'm correct, it's fibre, but is it rural fibre, or is it fibre she can tap into like urban users? Note that she does not live in an urban area.

The blue under the yellow plate would indicate that the maker post is there to make the location of a Chorus Fibre Joint Chamber/manhole - the U-XXX### is the chamber ID number.

Inside the chamber would be a fibre joint of some description. Like most resent rural fibre network installs a residential connection is always possible with a contribution of a 5 to 6 figure fee.

Thanks for that. Looks like copper ADSL is the go for her then.
