Can someone with access to chorus's internal maps help me out here?

I have a friend who is looking at buying a rural property, about 200m down the road is TEK/D however when you check on the customer facing map there seems to be no DSL available.
I can also see from the upgrade schedule that 2 of the cabinets off TEK are due for a upgrade but not TEK/D :(

any help is appreciated.

TEK/D doesn't even show up on the Chorus internal map.

The shaded area is the ADSL coverage.

The blue line is a Chorus fibre so your friend may be able to tap into this if he is willing to pay the fee.

Looks like you can get RBI there if you have to.

It might be rural fibre to another location.

I was thinking that too but google street view was taken in 2010, so really old now
seems like a complete waste to send a fibre all the way just for voice

as for RBI fibre as far as I can tell that is also a no go

No plans to upgrade it this year.

May happen under RBI stage 2 when that happens, ideally everyone in the area should fill out the form.

If there is fibre to it, it would make it easier upgrade.

The other option is the community can pool together and pay Chorus to upgrade it.

As happend in Okarito on the West Coast a few years ago.

Maybe jumping the gun a bit if the are only looking to move there.

I just had a look at some older Chorus/telecom network distribution plans (2009) - Yes there is a TEK/D there (actually recorded as TEK-D on the plans for some reason) it is a fibre feed PCM cabinet. The fibreoptic cable come all the way down Waikeria Rd from SH3 and links into the small fibre count cable that runs between Te Awamutu and Te Kawa (so not really suitable as a Rural Fibre Distribution cable) . The general area used to be feed on a 25 circuit copper cable also coming all the way down Waikeria Rd from SH3 but that would have been too small to feed the rural subdivision hence the cabinet install.

As for the BB question. I have know Idea - it may be part of the RBC Upgrades (no that is not a typo - it stands for Rural Broadband Chorus Upgrade that is being planed )

TEK seems to be in need of a rename really as far as I can tell TEK/A is the exchange located in Waikera it's self, TEK/C&D are cabinets located in Ngahape and Waikera Rds.
However where is TEK/B ?

It is not on the existing cabinet list. however it dose appear on the upgrade list .?.?.. (or is something completely botched as the cords are WAY off)

TEK/B is the actual cabinet that is built into the old Rural Exchange building TEK (Wharepunga Rd).

TEK/A (actually two physical cabinets, one PCM / One X connect) is down at the southern end of Waikeria Prison on Manuka Dr.

TEK/A would have been built first (when TEK was a stand alone exch) Then TEK/B when the exchange was removed and replaced with PCM serviced cabinets from TAW

Generally they seem to mostly be upgrading existing ASAM cabinets (ADSL1 / BUBA Only) than doing new installs.

Most of these are not shown as part of the Govt RBI funding, so I assume these fall under RBC Upgrades, which InstallerUFB talked about.

The link above includes most of the cabinets which contain active hardware, many of these are voice only and do not provide DSL. (They don't include cabinets that have no active hardware, such as cross-connect copper cabinet). From what I have found there is no easy way to tell from this if it is DSL and/or Voice. The Chorus internal maps only show DSL cabinets. As I have access to both I can work backwards from the 2 and figure it out.

You can also see most of it on http://gis.geek.nz, under layers remove all the cellsites and add Chorus cabinets, note the Chorus list is a couple of years out of date so is missing a few new cabinets (I think the cellsites are pretty up to date). Again it shows both voice and DSL cabinets.
