i had xtra last week and got around 2200 kbps download speed at www.speedtest.net then switch to xnet which i got around 3200 kbps. i then switched back to xtra and got 3300 kbps! id been with xtra for 3 years and only ever got 2200kbps and when i reconnected i get a xtra 1100 kbps?!? im probaly gonna do back to xnet cause u get way more gb per month and can turn interleaving off.

could i of just got adsl 2+ with xnet the first day it went from 2900kbps then next day up to 3200kbps

What you need to work out is, with 22 dB downstream attenuation, why you are syncing at such slow speeds.

Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.

could it be my modem? d link 302g router. but what caused that speed increase by switching and switch back to xtra?

All I am saying is that switching from Xtra to XNET, then back to Xtra and then back to XNET... It's a lot of wait around phone calls, setup, etc/

As for explaining the increase? Who knows the whole story? Perhaps your original connection was on Exchange A, when switched to XNET it moved to Exchange B, andd when you moved back o Xtra it was retained there keeping the speed?

Also you say something about ADSL2+ - was it the original connection, or the new ones? This alone could explain an increase in speed.

All I know is your story is confusing because it lacks a lot of things - some of the things we may never know because they are behind the scenes.

How do you know the attenuation? I can't see it anywhere in this discussion.

If its just speed tests, then different ISP's may have different performance, depending on how much bandwidth they have and how they route data. Some internet service providers may have less bandwidth per user than others. Certain helpdesks like blaming these issues on line issues or exchange issues.

If its physical connection rates, then its likely to change because there is nothing physically different about the phone line.

after about 3 days of changing back to xtra my speed has dropped from 3300kbps to 3000kbps to its orignal speed of 2200kbps

wiggle: All ISPs use the same broadband network within NZ. ie Telecom Wholesale's broadband network.

The exception is TelstraClear who have some of their own broadband network but they use telecom whoelsale's network for the majority of their customers

I have heard that Xtra (ie Telecom retail) delibrately throttle back their customers full speed plans to get better coverage but I can not confirm this but it may explain what happened to the person in this forum thread.

Try www.kiwilink.co.nz and you will not get any throttling back whatsoever. I went up to 6mbs when I changed and upgraded to full speed download plan. But I'm probably lucky where my connection is positioned to the local exchange

You may have heard that, but in my experience that is definitely not the case. Go-Large users are subject to traffic shaping but this is quite clear.

Disclaimer: I'm on Xtra and get 12mbps+, the slingshot connection less than a meter away is getting.... 0 because it won't authenticate (keeps doing this!) but usually gets about 2mbps. I'm near an exchange too.
