Hi, I've been trying to install my woosh modem (via USB) on my laptop but get an error everytime (error code 2208). The help instruction tells me to restart, reset, unpluck/reconnect but that isn't doing anything.
I've got the newest drivers and can see that the modem is recognized correctly, but still the woosh dialler gives me an "Communication failure" message when I try to start it.
I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling, even installed the driver separately without the dialler software, but the result is just the same.

Anybody out there with an idea on how to get the dialler to communicate with the modem?

By the way, the modem works, I'm using it right now on my old laptop.

Cheers
Johan

I use to have a woosh connection and experienced many issues, I cant remember all the error codes but it sounds similar. I really do suggest calling their tech support (lol) and asking for their help with it. After numerous issues the process I chose went like this:

1. Identify error
2. Call customer service
3. Be given really lame excuse
4. Eventually get sick of all the issues
5. Call and ask to be disconnected
6. Have a long drawn out battle with a Woosh Retention manager
7. Sign up to another ISP that actually works

The dialler software that IPW bundles with their hardware is very flakey. I would suggest hitting up your local office for a free IPW ethernet cable and go PPPoE or you could try the following :

1. Manually re-install the IPW driver. This is usually found in the \dlr directory of the installation CD.
2. Create a new connection in Network Connections (if using Windows XP) or go to Connect To if you are using Vista.

Using the ethernet cable is by far the best option to go for. If they don't want to give you a cable for nothing, you want to make noises about cancelling, they hate churning connections.

Have you tried uninstalling the IPWireless drivers, then downloading the latest drivers from ftp://ftp.woosh.co.nz I find those drivers work a lot more reliably than the ones shipped on the CD.  Unless you are using Vista then you need the vista specific drivers on the main Woosh web site.

If you look around the hub of the CD, you should see Ver .08/.08b or .09/09b. these versions are stable under XP and Windows 2K.

Any driver from CD releases .07 work reliably under Windows XP. For Vista, I highly recommend scrapping the USB cable and using the IPW ethernet cable and setting up a PPPoE connection in Windows.

Bear in mind, if you are using a SOC2 modem (red power LED instead of the green power LED), and try using a non-SOC2 IPW ethernet cable (it'll have SOC2 screen printed on the reverse of the LED module) you can damage the modem.

(In case you are wondering how I know this crap, it's because I am EX-Woosh. I stress the EX part because I couldn't bear to work there any longer).
