Hi,

What are the options for wireless broadband in Hamilton city?

Does Woosh operate in hamilton? I don't have an address/phone number yet so I couldn't use the converage area form on their website, but I will be living quite central if anyone knows the coverage area.

Cheers

Woosh is not here as yet but they are talking about building a wimax network covering the city.
There are telecom hot spots around, if your looking at wireless from home there is the old Wiredcountry network run by compass, however you need line of sight to Waikato Hospital to get that service.

Kordia's Extend network also covers pretty much all of Hamilton with "Excellent" or "Good" coverage according to this web page:

When I was in Hamilton a few years ago there was another wireless broadband company...

There was a crowd called Go Live some years ago in Hamilton, but I think they've gone under or been acquired by someone else.

Woosh does (or at least did, 4-5 years ago) have their legacy 5.8GHz Adaptive Broadband network available in Hamilton.  This is very different from their UMTS-TDD network and is the Walker Wireless network.  You might be able to find someone at an ISP or Woosh who can help sell you this service, if they haven't killed it off completely.

Otherwise, I think TelstraClear has some weird DSS equipment they use (or used) to deliver Tempest connectivity over.

Failing that, Telecom 3G or Vodafone 3G? What sort of connectivity are you actually looking for?

I was on the wired country wireless service phone and internet for about 3 years but it got ridiculously expensive otherwise i wouldve still been on it. I emailed Gasp about 2 years ago and they said they were leasing buildings in hamilton (im from hamilton) so they could extend their service here. Looks like this hasnt eventuated or wont.

Not sure of any other wireless providers though. The pricing and installation for the service actually delivered isnt realy worth it i think. I do miss the odd time when Wired Country would do maintenance and i could get 10.4Mb/s national download speed.... i took a screenshot because i knew it would be a very long time before i would see that on adsl lol

Wired Country (now Compass) have a 3.5GHz base station on roof of Waikato Hospital so you can get that from them or one of their resellers if you have line of sight. I think there is another Wifi network around there somewhere, check the yellow pages?

Time to find a new industry!
