Hi all,

Just want to check that when you phone service/POTS is via the ONT's ATA, it shouldn't matter whether the router is connected or working. The phone service should still work provided the ONT and network etc is. I.E. if both aren't working it most likely means the problem isn't the router.

I'm pretty sure this is the case since it's a separate VLAN etc, but didn't find anything to confirm. If it matters, I'm talking about Chorus's configuration. (And MyRepublic.)

Cheers

If you aren't getting your phone services from the ATA1 on the ONT, odds are good that there is an issue in the network configuration or connection, regardless of if your router is connected or not. Get in touch with your provider for further info.

I don't think any providers other than Spark or Megatel are using it, you will need to go SIP via the Router.

MyRepublic uses the ONT ATA

Your assumption is correct, so you need to check whether the ISP has any issues and whether you have connected the phone to the right outlet. If you have a separate voice provider, they should be able to help with that.

Time to find a new industry!

At the risk of plugging my own thread (laughing), Compass and TrustPower use it too. I've never heard of Megatel but will add it to the list.

Yeah I'm with MyRepublic and my phone service runs through the ATA on the ONT. Works even when the router is switched off. Of course, I'm happier when it doesn't work as the only reason we've got that blasted old landline is so that the mother-in-law can ring us

But just check that your ISP utilises ATA or VoIP. If they use VoIP, there's a chance they don't even send a config file down the ATA channel. VoIP should only really be used off the back of your router.
