Hey guys, any Mangawhai residents in here? I'm moving up there soon and I'm looking at internet options...The previous tenants had a wireless Uber Group connection, 10/6 Mbits, 220gb at $109. That's the highest advertised data cap. I'm getting 50/10 Mbits at my current Auckland home on VDSL, it's going to hurt downgrading from that and we use closer to 500gb here. Any Mangawhai local tips on the best deal up there? New house is on Devich rd on the hills behind Mangawhai, about 10 mins from Mangawhai Heads.

Thanks for any help!

The National Broadband map shows VDSL in some of the township. Wireless (as you already are aware of) seems to be available across the district.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Thanks for that link. Hmm it says VDSL is available at the address but these maps aren't 100% accurate right? Can Chorus confirm if it's available without going onsite?

https://www.chorus.co.nz/maps will give an indication, but it's impossible to be 100% sure without actually ordering it. The obvious problem is that you need to enter a full address though, which can be tricky if you don't know where you're going yet!

Haha I have an address, chorus map checker seems to indicate VDSL is available. I think, kinda confusing website. I guess I'll email them for starters to try and confirm it.

The cabinet is located on Lawrence Rd, near Cames Rd W. So if you are on Devich Rd and close enough to Lawrence Rd you should be in VDSL zone. This is a RBI upgraded cabinet, so quite possibly more recent addition since previous tenants got their wireless link.

If the VDSL doesn't work out, a Skinny Broadband modem (with added external antenna) may be an option. Most of Devich Road has clear line-of-sight to the tower North of Mangawhai Heads township. Devich Road addresses don't show as available in their checker, but addresses in Mangawhai Heads do, suggesting they have bandwidth available on that tower. Since you'd be coming off the same tower I don't see them having issue with it. You'd just need to use an address in Mangawhai Heads that works and then change delivery address for the modem.
