Hi all.

I'm aware that the 'free' installs for UFB won't last forever.  Has there been any date set in stone on when this will occur?

Cheers,
Grant

2019 I thought. When the rollout finishes.

I imagine it will be extended. Uptake will drop off rapidly if people have to pay the full install cost.

I think/hope that it's December 2019 - which is when we will get fibre in our Wellington suburb, at the end of the roll-out.

What the quality of the "free" install will be like is another question.  undecided

Is it just me or is having the free install end about the time places like Karori will finally get UFB a bit on the daft side. Surely there must be some time after the actual rollout finishes for people to be able to install the service in their homes.

Means the budget will be mostly exhausted by then, making the aerial installs in wellington look cheap by comparison. Aerial is very cheap....

Likely to depend on the LCF and if it is a standard or non standard install.

Chorus's non standard install fee only has funding until end of 2016 but Chorus/CFH hope to extend it (like the did at the end of 2015 I believe)

Generally they will contribute $1000 per dwelling/unit and the rest needs to be covered by landlord and/or requester.

e.g. Shared driveway of 6 houses will get $6000,

an apartment of say 12 units will get $12,000, if the install was $15,000 landlord/bodycorp/requester would need to pay the other $3000.

Just hope they keep doing it for here in Morrinsville when fiber goes in.  Who knows when that will be..

It was on the short list for UFB Stage 2.

Hopefully the list is out this year, due to be done by end of 2022 if they make the cut.

i would think it would be a little wile after then to cater for those who dont get fibre till the end of 2019

If the long term game is to shut down copper, they'll have to do free installs surely?

I've been led to believe that we're not on the second phase so will be 202x (or 203x god forbid) for sure and I will be p*ssed if I have to pay for that privilege.

But also, once all you lucky ones have been hooked in by fibre I wouldn't be surprised if there is a good rise in the cost of a monthly fibre plan. Someone has to pay for all this "free" work.

it should be the people in fibre areas that are still on copper :P

What area are you in?

The tax payer has already paid for the installs.

As far as a rise in UFB prices, this is unlikely to be big, currently some prices are regulated, the rest are in line with this.

I think they are getting tighter and tighter as time moves on. Just this week got a quote for $10k to get fibre down a to business on a back section - only 50-60m but concrete and no option to surface run the conduit.

That would have been free not long ago, but oh well.
