Not sure if anyone has had this issue before, a little bit of backstory:

Our office is currently served with an ADSL connection, we use 365 + VOIP so the performance of this was starting to become less than ideal.

In July 2015 we started the process of getting fibre installed on the property, however due to the nature of the work required (400m+ cable run) and Chorus's inability to organise the right contractors to come onsite and complete the job (that they spec'd and quoted us for) this has not yet been completed..

In the meantime we had hoped to upgrade to VDSL however we have since been told (by our ISP Spark) that because there is an existing order for fibre on our line we cannot do this unless we cancel the fibre install order.

Does anyone know if there is anyway to get an existing copper ADSL connection upgraded to VDSL while a fibre install order is active/stalled?

Get vdsl on a second pair from someone else and then just move services over to it when it is installed. then tell the first ISP to cut off the ADSL.

I considered this too however I suspect it would cancel the fibre order, which I am hesitant to do due to the amount of time it took to get them to agree to do the job..

Shouldnt do, as it would be a complete new install into the property.

Also I know people who have changed DSL while fiber was being built, so its probably a telco issue not a chorus one. Not with spark are you? They seem to have the majority of the problems with cant do something because something else is happening.

UFB and DSL systems are completely separate between Chorus and the LFC, even if the LFC is Chorus. You can definitely have a DSL order in progress while there's also a UFB order in progress at the same address.

You may have run into a limitation of your provider, either with their internal systems, or processes around plan changes/upgrades. One other potential situation which could cause this is if there's an open service order to port a POTS number over to VoIP as part of the UFB upgrade, and that POTS number is linked to the existing ADSL ASID.

Bollocks. of course you can. Get another ISP to churn it for you.

Well the consensus seems to be that Spark is at fault, I will try a couple of other ISP's and see what they offer.

Thanks everyone!

I signed up to Fibre on Vodafone, consent process is taking time so they said they could install VDSL for me but need to cancel my Fibre order. I cancelled Fibre and got VDSL, now in the process of completing the consent process for Fibre. Fingers crosses the other two properties say yes eek.

Tried to have ADSL connected to our house then VDSL while fibre order is on the way... Bigpipe allowed it. Just so happened area apparently was fibre only.

So having multiple orders was possible on this iSP...

Same problem, open service-order will bounce the ISP change. Yeah get VDSL installed as a completely new service on a second pair, then request it to be upgraded to UFB at the same time as cancelling the other line and probably the other UFB order.
