Apparently Waiheke's UFB rollout is "complete", well I live on Waiheke, so naturally I checked my address today to see if it's available... Aaand it's not :(

I'm constantly having to apologize to my overseas clients for my slow connection

So are you actually in a UFB build area?

Like everywhere the completion of the physical civil network build does not mean that an area will be available for immediate provisioning. The network build data needs to be updated and testing done and once that's all done it will be available for ordering. This process is typically 1-3 months from when the build is complete. The fact this is the end of the build process would mean this would be on the shorter side.

I've looked it up on Chorus and ufb.org.nz and I'm not in the UFB area at all. Geographically the vast majority of the island also is not, yes some of it is sparsely populated but not where I am, there's a lot of people here in Rocky Bay (Omiha is the suburb name)

That percentage would be in terms of the population on the island, not the area covered.

Looks like the remainder of Waiheke could be a candidate for the UFB 2 thingee, as part of a "fringe" area

Interesting! What list is this? Is UFB2 and UFB1 Fringe a second round of rollouts planned for sometime in the future?

Yes you're right... but that's not complete

What was planned by CFH is complete.

It's unfortunate that people miss out but there always has to be a cutoff point whether it's ADSL, VDSL or even in the old days calling areas.

Waiheke could be a candidate for expansion with UFB2 as mentioned above. I wouldn't however expect to see any expansion occur beyond existing ADSL2+ coverage.

On a related note sbiddle, what happens when the copper network finally gets 'turned off'? Or is that unlikely to happen for quite a while yet?

That's not going to happen for some time.. And I think your options will be pretty straight forward - fibre or home wireless from Spark/Vodafone.

Copper won't be shut off in rural areas where it's still expanding.

Yeah... sad but true. We're just small hill away from the nearest UFB here. Though we were still getting dial-up installations being done in Rocky Bay as recently as 2014.

I lived near One Tree Hill last year and was literally two houses away from a UFB area haha! Can't win

Is it stupid to think that if copper is decommissioned (don't think it will every where) that the government will force a reasonably priced unlimited RBI wireless plan, kinda sucks for some of us if not.

There is no current plan to switch off the copper network. Those that say this to you you are Providers that are being fraudulent.
