Yes I know its required, not the question I;m going for...
I replaced the original filter for my parents yesterday (was install in 128k broadband days early 2000's). I did a new run of cat5e from the ETP after connecting the new VDSL filter and using gel caps..
They currently have ADSL but their request for an upgrade to VDSL is being actioned on Wednesday so wanted to get their wiring sorted for the 10 days of DLM magic..
They saw an instant doubling of upload (500k to 1080k) and download boosted an extra 50% from 9000ish to 14000ish on initial sync.
I then checked the sync a few hours later and it was woeful, upload was 200ish and download was 600ish..
I didn't replace the faceplate the modem plugs into so was wondering if this was the cause of a high number of errors on the line and the sync dropping down?
Can i connect the modem directly to the wiring? i.e. cut of the rj11 cable at one end and use gel caps to wire it into the cat5e cable coming from the filter? or must a faceplate be used? looks like they have a resistor of some type...
thanks
