Hey, does anyone know much about how these ADSL2 profiles work? I think they are reach-extended ADSL2, for longer lines. I have a couple of connections syncing in this mode. The problem being is a very low up-stream sync approx 120-200Kbps. If the router is forced back to DSL1 mode, then the up-stream syncs back around 700Kbps.

Would like the benefit of ADSL2, but not at the expense of the up-stream. Have tried forcing into the other ADSL2 modes, but it always reverts to this mode.

Any ideas?

Dynalink RTA1320
D-Link 502T
ZyXEL 661HW

All do they same thing, with a bit of variation in speed. Have tried locking in ADSL2+ etc, but always reverts to RE-ADSL2 / G.dmt.bis. Would prefer to use this mode on these longer lines, as more stable connection, but the up-stream is somewhat on the low side. If the upstream would sync in the 300+ range, then I'd be happy.

If you have longer lines ADSL2+ will make zero difference to downstream speed on longer lines so thats probably why it does that. Havent seen the slower upstream but RE is not available on ADSL2+ so your router might be trying to get intelligent. Actually I thought RE-ADSL2 was limited to 256kbps, but you can definitely lock it into G.DMT to get normal ADSL with the standard upstream speed. I dont think Telecom use a reach extended profile, they just have a profile thats sometimes works ok on long lines. Perhaps you can put in a central splitter to minimise any wiring issues on your end of the line. some previous threads mentioned improvements possible with removing 3-wire jacks etc.

Time to find a new industry!

Doesn't seem to be limited to 256, at least not the downstream anyways. If I could get 256 on the upstream though, that would be great. Interesting I have one connection with approx 50db line attenuation, an this connects approx 1700/120. An other connection with 60db connects 1900/170. Hmmm??
