So I moved into a new house and had the fibre install arranged months in advance. Guy turns up, says oh its all blown and only needs to be activated. A week later, activator shows up and says it hasn't been blown and needs the first guy back.

I'm over it already. Currently using a portable WIFI hotspot but its expensive with low data caps and can only handle a few devices connected.

So we have four adults living here, whats the best temporary solution? Is there an ADSL provider with no connection fees and no contract? Or is there a better way? From what I'm now reading, fibre install can be an incredibly long painful process.

I believe Bigpipe offer a no-contract option?

I believe bigpipe does no contracts plans on ADSL lines. ^^^ EDIT: beat me to it, I might add though I think the no contracts are for BYO Modem.
Do you have an "Intact" line into the house on the copper? If not the process of ADSL can be just as painful.

Which ISP? I know Orcon and Slingshot are offering "ADSL While-U-Wait" now ... others might do something like it as well if you ask.

edit: it will depend if you do have copper already in place, if not then it's probably not going to pan out.

How new is your house and subdivision? If it's brand new you may not have copper hence you won't be able to get DSL.

Have you looked into Skinny 4G? $52/100GB

Ah yes, the fibre is through Bigpipe so I did check that out. That $49 connection fee is the only problem, when for all I know fibre could be operational tomorrow.

Guess its gonna be hard to find any with no fees as they're there to stop people doing exactly this...

When I connected Fibre when I moved into a house a year ago, Bigpipe offered DSL while we waited for the Fibre. They did not mention having to pay two connection fees.

I didn't take it up as I was organising the install before we moved in (while the house was empty). I had about 4 days with no fixed line broadband. The fibre install process was (luckily for me) very quick and easy.

No sh!t! It was supposed to be done two weeks ago!

No sh!t! It was supposed to be done two weeks ago!

Can they see an ONT at the address already? And no, you don't pay two connection fees for a temporary DSL connection while you wait for fibre, you only pay the connection fee once.

Is the house wired for copper?

Skinny wireless. My wait for fiber was 8 months, $50 install fee for a temporary solution isn't bad, you'll spend that in a week on mobile data.
