About seven weeks ago, I saw Chrous installing fibre on my street.

Then the next day, two black tubes appear at my section.

Fast forward to a few days ago, those two black tubes have been cut short.  They have also been sealed with caps.

However, I am not too sure they have been cut too short.  As you can see from the picture below, they are quite short and I don't think they can go inside the light-green box.  I think the black one will be no go, because it said high voltage live cables.  Sorry about the bad lighting.

Couple of days ago, those short cables are gone.  I bet they got buried under the soil, or gone inside one of the boxes.  I check all the properties on my side of the street.  They are all gone or buried.

I noticed my section, and my neighbour's do not have a black Chorus plastic disc / cap / top.  But most of my other neighbours have them.  They appeared a couple of days ago.  I also check some properties a few streets away, which they now have fibre, they all have these discs / caps.

So my question is... Has my install gone bad so I am not getting fibre?  Or would not get it for a long time?

Thanks!

Your photos aren't showing up. Can you edit your post and check you got it right?

That black disc thing is sort of an X marks the spot. Your fibre tube will be buried directly under it.

When you get fibre installed, they will dig these tubes back up, and join it to another new tube that they will put in. The new tube will then run towards your house.

Here's what the joint will look like:

The discs are there so that they can find where they buried the tubes, they aren't actually part of the network.

Thanks.  Any idea why my section, and my neighbour's don't have the cap, but all others on the street (including those on the opposite side of the road) do?

Thanks!

Chorus has installed conduits to the border of your property. There is no fibre in there whatsoever. When you apply for fibre they will "blow it" to your property through the conduit that you see.

So technically yes they didn't install any fibre. And no nothing has gone wrong.

Except I could be wrong :) I'm only a geek.

I think all that has happened is that they have buried the 'lateral' ends of the microducts near where they were by your property - (above ground for testing and then capping) - and that the crew who did the burial and reinstatement just didnt put the marker 'T' in / the QA follow up will more than likely spot its missing and get it put in before long.

As has been said there is no 'fibre' in there untill provisioned - its just a lot of little plastic tubes running along the road connected back to a pit, that will have a fibre terminal in it.

The black markers just indicate the end of the microduct. They're generally just there as a guide as they have plans that show these locations, and they need to be dug up anyway for the install. There are a number in my street that have all disappeared.

Thank you all for your help.  It is good to know that black disc is not part of a critical part of UFB.

I think I will sign up to it relative quickly once it is ready.  I am on VDSL now, with good download and upload.  But am afraid the performance could go down once more people sign up to it.  =-)
