Hi there

I'm just moved to Arrowtown, Otago. I've got a slow adsl connection and looking at options for my work (work from home).

My provider is Spark right now, on the 'Home Broadband Unlimited Data Plan' ADSL. Current speed is 12mbs (sorry i'm not sure if i have used the write terminology here but hopefully you understand what I'm explaining!).

Spark's only suggestion is to try their wireless broadband instead of the copper line connection.

I'm wondering if anyone can offer advice on this (options on providers and plans) ? I'm pretty limited due to location i think but any advice on my best options to improve speed would be greatly appreciated - don't mind changing set up or providers.

If I have left out any details let me know and I'll try my best to provide them!

what does https://www.chorus.co.nz/ say is available at your place?

wireless is good if you dont mind a data cap of about 100GB

What sort of budget does your work provide? Both for install cost and monthly cost.

This is consistent with what spark said.

I'm wondering which provider would be the best to go with to get the fastest connection? Stick with spark or for my location can I find a better provider for wireless? Any help would be appreciated, i'm a bit green on this!!

Broadbandmap tells you which wireless provider(s) you can get at your address. Wireless will most likely give you better speeds than ADSL.

Broadbandmap is showing Spark, Vodafone, Countrynet, and Compass. Is it much of a muchness between vodafone and spark here?

@Quickymart - yes pretty much central arrowtown (out 1-2kms towards queenstown)

Hmm, I thought VDSL was available there but if you're that far out it may not be any good. Wireless RBI might be your best bet then.

I could try and call a few providers perhaps see what they come up with perhaps.

Do you recommend any providers over others for wireless?

If you're looking at Spark wireless you should look at Skinny wireless as well. It's the same thing with lower prices.

12mbps sounds like an excellent adsl speed.

Wireless maybe an option and would most probably be quicker, but it is not unlimited. How much data do you actually use per month?

from my experiences with wireless connections their latency is usually higher than fixed line, something to keep in mind if that matters to you.
