Hi I have overseas parents who have extremely slow internet. It could well be in need of a master filter. But before murdering us, could you please comment on these data

ADSL2PLUS

SNR Margin: 42.8 24.8 db
Line Attenuation: 9.3 2.1 db
Data Rate: 3072 509 kbps
Max Rate: 26708 1192 kbps
CRC: 24 7

first question is why is the SNR so high? they have pretty good attenuation at 9dB so should have good speed if the SNR was better. in NZ on ADSL it would be somewhere less than 12dB normally

where are your parents?

Without knowing the location, I would suggest that the sync rate is artificially set at 3000/500 by their ISP.

Just found out they are using a BB service capped at 1 Mbps/ 300 kbps ... !

Wow, that stinks of the bad-ol-day's in New Zealand before Telecom quivered in fear of the Commerce Commission. I didn't know such intentionally rubbish plans still existed in the developed world.

Do they live on an island somewhere, serviced via satellite?

was my first guess seeing the sync rates too..

aus commonly do the same thing, remember not all countries do FS/FS

Yes. Should've asked them about their "broadband" plan before looking into the modem stats
