Is it possible to transfer my monitored alarm from my main copper line to my secondary copper line? wanting to go to fibre but the transition for my alarm from copper to fibre is going to be too costly. Any insite would be appreciated!!

You can just leave the alarm on the main copper line? No need to move it to the secondary line?

You might want to do the sums though, the copper line's going to cost you $50/month.

So you're paying for two POTS lines into the house and want to keep one?

I want to transfer my main line to fibre (part of the deal was including calls and bb) but i just want to know if i would be able to keep one copper line and have my monitored alarm transferred onto that.

It would be cheaper to see if you can get a GSM/3G module for your alarm, if your monitoring company supports it.

Edited to correct typo

Sure, as long as you want to keep on paying for the copper. How much is the conversion cost anyway? Surely it's not worth the monthly fee to keep it going?

Pretty much this.

Considering there are plenty of IP modules are under $200 and fitting them is pretty straight forward if no major cabling with is required the payback is pretty quick when you're paying $50 per month for copper.

I was told it would be around $500 to convert the alarm so it is compatible with fibre. I also have a fax which I need. This was part of the reason I was wanting to keep the 1 x copper line. So seeing as I will be keeping 1 x copper line anyway I just needed to find out whether it would be simple enough to transition the alarm from my main line to the secondary line.

Thanks for all the help btw!

My GPRS module was charged out at $165 with additional $155 for callout and labour to install. You still need someone to physically connect your alarm to the second line.

Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.

Is there a specific reason you can't just drop the secondary line and move the fax machine (reroute cable to socket connecting fax and tap into primary wiring) ? Is there a master splitter involved somewhere ?

I had a master splitter outside at the base of the pole with separate drop wires which Chorus seemed to know nothing about and was very puzzling initally when trying to get adsl to work on different sockets in the house.

Like others I decided to get a gprs module for my alarm system and drop copper but your fax requirement complicates that. I would check to see if the fax will go through the fibre's VOIP system.
