Just noticed my gaming traffic is being routed via Hong Kong.

Maybe the ISP / upstream provider is sending traffic via another route as it's much cheaper, Internet traffic is not always routed the most direct path

Don't think so, certainly not the entire cable system.

Most NZ ISPs (perhaps with exception of Vocus) will rely on a third party for Internet transit capacity over that cable.

My pings to worldoftanks.asia still seem to be going over SMW3.

Who is your ISP?

Mine is Spark - will probably post something on their forum.

This has happened to me before but only for a couple of hours.

Just posted a query in Spark's forum - man their telephone support is nothing short of useless.

Since the OP created a new thread in the Spark sub-forum here I am locking this one.
