Hi all,

We are currently looking at moving to Riverstone Terraces, Upper Hutt so I have been checking out broadband availability at houses we are looking at. Fibre won't be available in most areas there until next year.

I've been using the Chorus address checker here: https://www.chorus.co.nz/network-upgrade-map

and the National Broadband map here: https://broadbandmap.nz

What's weird is that some places only say ADSL in the Chorus map but the broadband map says their is VDSL availability. I know there is VDSL availability in the area as well. One place I looked at said 14mbps ADSL is the max on the Chorus map - wouldn't that speed indicate that VDSL would still be an option?

It's a good idea to use those maps as a guide only. Ask your ISP to run some prequals for you if you want more detailed information.

I don't have an ISP at these houses though. I am on Cable at the moment. Not even sure who to call.

Any ISP will be able to tell you this. Running a prequal is a pretty standard pre-sales question. Start by calling Voda if you plan on keep using them?

My opinion on prequals, Pick the isp that suits you best to get one.

For quite awhile i was always going to snap, then i switched to spark. really depends on Queues.

If i was to need to call around again nowdays, i'd be poking a stick at bigpipe since its a quick email.

Alternative to bp, sparks live chat agents will be able to organize a manual prequal and notify you with the results when it comes in (normally within the hour)

Otherwise as @michaelmurfy offers, most of us who work at rsps are happy to run a quick check.
