Hello

Friends in Kelson (Hutt, Wellington) are chipping in with the others up the shared driveway, 4 houses total, to concrete it. They wanted to have Chorus do their thing beforehand so all ordered UFB with their respective ISPs. My friends as the leaders of this provided full contact details for everyone up the driveway.

Chorus have now cancelled the request from at least my friends saying unable to contact other residents.

They're just trying to do the sensible thing before laying a whole lot of concrete but as expected it's proving to be veryyyyy difficult.

Any suggestions?

did they all put in consent forms?

could they not just run the ducting themselves?

Best bet is to run their own conduit to each house from the road otherwise the lead in will most likely get attached to the fence.

So if the guys digging up the old driveway run an approved conduit from road boundary to each house at required depth Chorus will be happy to use it?

I didn't know Chorus would be ok with Joe Bloggs installing their own ducting.

Chorus does provide a service where they will install the conduit while the driveway is dug up. Ask your ISP to arrange.

Feel their pain! Family are trying to get theirs installed in Taupo on a shared drive, their own Chorus tech didnt follow procedure on the scope, and tried to do an easy but ugly install which Chorus declined. Tried to get them back to do a re-scope and agreed method, and Chorus said nope, resubmit required. So they resubmitted (both parties) and it got declined.

Chorus would not provide a reason it was declined and you can only deal with the ISP who says it is declined, we cant find out why. The ISP have asked them to resubmit permission again despite both parties paperwork etc. being identical. There is a real lack of ability to escalate when communication breaks down between ISP's and Chorus. It just takes one individual somewhere in the chain (in this case the scoper who was going to just do what he thought without sign off) not to do what they are meant to and your screwed. I think its about 7 weeks and counting since the process started.

chorus have consent forms on their site.

and chorus don't generally have an issue with using your own ducting as it saves them time and money for the install. ill be running my own when we do work on our house.

The chorus subbie from Downers was more than happy to use the conduit that I'd pre-installed. He didn't particularly care how deep it was or what it was made of.

How long is your friend's driveway? Might need a fair amount of conduit to do the whole thing to four houses.

Do not use orange conduit / pipe / ducting

They prefer green but as long as it isn't orange, it should be ok

At a guess probably 40m driveway then branches off to 4 houses another 15m each.
