Hello Everyone,

soon my contract with Vodafone is expiring and to supplement my research for a better deal i would like to have your opinion!

Currently i operate a small restaurant so my needs are to have the eftpos machine, caller ID, good upload speed for remote CCTV viewing and RDP connections.

Quite honestly any ISP could service you no problem.

But from your point of view what do you REALLY need from your ISP? I would assume that if the internet goes down that stops you processing eftpos transactions? So maybe either Spark or Vodafone would be a good bet as both can also provide you with mobile service in this circumstance at either little or no extra cost.

Then you just need a router (which these ISPs won't give you) that you could plug your cellphone in to via USB tethering mode to share the internet connection while the primary connection was down.

The other side to this is maybe have cell service with one carrier and broadband with a completely different one in the (extremely rare) case that some core issue affects both fixed and mobile networks.

What type of connection have you got now ADSL , VDSL , Cable HFC , Fibre or wireless?

Changing ISP 99% of the time speed will be the same

If you are switching ISP it is worth considering possible disruption if the transfer is stuffed up.
Is it really worth the possible hassle of switching?

I like Voyager, I have it in 3 locations, and our customers all use them. Very few issues.

Thank you all for the feedback!

The idea is that, since UFB become available, to switch to fiber.

The connection now isn't really stable, it's and old ADSL :

More than internet or the eftpos machine (it can work with a sim card) is the phone line that is important since is the main source for the takeaway orders.

The ability to forward all calls to a mobile in case of a fault is alluring, i might turn to Spark since I still not happy with Vodafone's service so far.

I've never heard of Voyager, i'll make sure to see what they offer!

I just changed to them today, very happy so far. Had to re-enter my login info in the router, but once that was done it all seems good so far :)

Are you sure you don't have dodgy telephone cabling impacting the xDSL speed?

Moving ISP will not make any difference in speed if you have poor telephone cabling

Just remember going from ADSL to Fibre is not going to happen overnight and the process might take several weeks to months.

You are going to need to consider continuation of service during the switch over for both the broadband and telephone number. If you are going to be switching providers make it known you are wanting to switch the ADSL and landline over first before starting the process for fibre.

If you can get fibre then do. We just spent $1.5b of tax dollar investment into it, we should use it! Using it will also lower the cost of this part of telecommunications to the consumer long term.

Get a router than you can put a USB dongle in for back up, then set up the dongle to use shared data off something, then test it and test it every month to make sure it's working.

Set up your phones on VoIP. Get a VoIP handset that connects to your router. This way, when the data goes off on the fibre (which it will!) your service just keeps going with out you noticing. What you don't want it to be busy on a Friday night and the phones go dead and you then have to mess about plugging in and setting up "your mobile to do that data sharing thingo". You want this to be robust and just always work.
