Looking at wiring up my new house (previous owners appear to have been bottlenecking their fibre by using a purely WiFi network), and wondering if anyone had any recommendations for a good but not too costly data cabling company around the Auckland area? Would be looking at putting in some Cat-7 or similar cabling and some wall ports in a few of the rooms.

Cat 7? Really?

If you want a small company with personalised service I can recommend http://edl-electriciansauckland.co.nz/residential.html

Awesome guy, good all rounder and will look after you. In my experience most dedicated cabling companies (esp for Cat 7 which isn't really popular yet) will charge a lot more and tend to focus on commercial installations.
I'd at least ask for an opinion from someone doing this routinely.

True, it isn't popular yet, but I figured I might as well get ahead of things a bit. CAT6 would be perfectly fine too though haha.

Will check out EDL.

Might try him out. Had Chorus come over but apparently where I want the ONT located inside the home is more work than they can do.

Sorry to hijack your post OP - but would be good to get some advice. Since I'll be getting an electrician to bring the cable up for the ONT, would it be more cost effective to have him install a few ethernet ports around the home to connect wifi extenders to, or better to just get some of those new Mesh systems?

Having multiple wifi AP's connected to ethernet will vastly outperform any mesh network so definitely do that if you can.
