Hi All,

 

I'm after ISP recommendations. I'm leaning towards BigPipe, but I figure it never hurts to crowd source some opinions :-)

 

  • Naked UFB
  • No Contract
  • Smooth and quick UFB install process (yeah I know, haha), ideally DSL provisioned in the interim.
  • Public IP required, doesn't have to be static but that would be a bonus.
  • No monthly fee for public/static IP, small onetime fee okay.
  • Must allow me to BYO router
  • Must be unlimited data without noticeable peak hour congestion
  • Suitable for online gaming (e.g. Low latency and decent routes)
  • Torrent friendly
  • Support that follows the shibboleet protocol :-P

If anyone has any suggestions other than BigPipe feel free to pipe up :-)

Sounds like you're wanting to sign up towards BigPipe...

 

You could sign up to Voyager too but BigPipe seems like the ISP you're describing.

Just be aware that Bigpipe have no local POPs, so all traffic goes via Auckland and this could affect your ping. I was with them for a while but ended up switching to 2degrees and found the performance to be faster  for downloads, pings to gameservers (I'm guessing you'll be using Getsome) and especially DNS resolution. They have a $10 monthly fee for static IP address which I didn't go for so I just use a script to update my DNS records at Namesilo and have a 1 hour TTL, my fibre connection is very reliable and I rarely change IP addresses.

Voyager ticks those boxes as MM said. Ive been with them on VDSL for must be over 18 months now I think, only time Ive had to call them is when Ive fudged something up, and theyve answered within a few rings. ;) One off fee for the static was great, compared to the $20 other ISPs wanted monthly.

 

I've never had any congestion issues with them and my ping for Overwatch is a constant 40ms.

What about Skinny? Anybody know what they're like? (Applies to OP but I am looking around for cheap unlimited VDSL)

Voyager looked, and will definitely consider them if Bigpipe disappoint me, but they had a setup fee and I got a $20 credit using @michaelmurfy 's signup code so Bigpipe it was.

Skinny is basically the same thing as Bigpipe. Cheaper, but no BYO modem and CGNAT only.
