Yes yes, I know it is me asking this question and I know there is numerous threads on here potentially asking the question I am asking but hear me out.

My Parents have got VDSL out in the middle of rural nowhere as you guys likely know. Well, I screwed up with doing some maintenance on their network while I am here and have had to reboot their router a few times. They also get almost weekly powercuts (a hassle for me since every time I have to re-image a Raspberry Pi that had corrupted itself).

Their normal sync looks like this:

But since these latest powercuts (around 6 in one day) along with me resetting the router it has dropped... When I arrived yesterday before touching it the router had a sync of 67Mbit down, 30Mbit up. Now it is 36/14. A pain for me since I come from Gigabit UFB.

I've raised a fault with Voyager to potentially get the DLM reset after I install a UPS on their networking equipment which they're doing but the question here is when does the DSLAM consider the line is potentially dodgy and how much time normally would it take for DLM to reset back to its normal profile?

Voyager btw have been incredibly good to deal with after explaining to them they get many powercuts but I must not be the only person in this situation. There will be others who have DLM decide their line is dodgy due to dodgy electricity especially out here.

Here is hoping Chorus actually reset the profile in the time I am here :)

DLM is not static as you know but I am sure if the router remains powered up DLM will change profile in 10 days if I remember correct (happy to be corrected)

Whilst 10 days is what is advised as a general rule, DLM polls the line every 24 hrs and tests alternate profiles (cycliclly) for stability. So it may change in short order, however could also take some time to work through.

OP.

My own experience has been ddDLM will wait around 5 days with stable error rate and then up the sync rate. ddDLM is a lot more active than the old DLM so hopefully you won't have too long to wait assuming you can get a stable UPS power supply.

Interesting re: your comment about resetting port. I thought Chorus has changed the rule around resetting port since the introduction of ddDLM. RSP can no longer reset port easily like before. I could be wrong though.

The bad weather in the last two months have been affecting my copper line as well by increasing the CRC rate. The top sync rate for me (down) has been 67 Mbps and it is now sitting at 42 Mbps. The sync rate does go up if I can get a long period of fine weather.

I have master filter so I am pretty sure it it not internal wiring but external line to the cabinet. Also, I only notice error rate increase on heavy rain and high wind days. Don't think there is anything much I can do with the external line as no one really care about copper infrastructure any more.

Cheers guys - thought as much. Voyager tried doing a port reset with me on the phone but didn't improve anything but have raised it with Chorus to get it reset. Turns out a few of their customers around my parents area have the same issue with a low sync rate due to the dodgy electricity.

After my playing about with my VDSL in middle of initial ddDLM setup and ending up with a really high Interleave Depth it took 5-6 weeks for ddDLM to do a resync and drop this back to normal levels
You may need to be patient.

100/50Mbps is not really rural is it, the DSLAM must be in their lounge, used to store Mums best china  :)

Unfortunately Chorus support in terms of ddDLM profile changes isn't as ideal.

Now in your case, i do note, modem is riding at 26dB, a resync will probably bring you back up to 50/14 Past that though, waiting it out is all you can do :/

My own line has been relatively clean lately, but when i was having faults from a connector roadside (Rural, tree was brushing against CT...)

i'd just get it resolved, Line would go stable start coming back down to 6dB/6dB and then fault would hit again...

Was frustrating as all heck, and i did try to deploy my contacts throughout to see if i couldn't encourage things to be a bit more happier.

Took about 2 months, however the line has now started dropping back to where it should be. Currently holding the best PSD it has managed yet, which would indicate to me that ddDLM is very happy to push as much signal down the line as possible.

As such, best advice i can give through both work and personal experience is, wait it out :/

Hopefully chorus will Empower RSP's to have a little more control over ddDLM at some point, There are some unique cases where i legimentantly see human intervention as a good thing.

It is more noticable in speed on vdsl, however ddDLM can be pretty horrible to ADSL links too. (anyone here had periods of instability randomly followed with NFF's ? ;) )

Props to ya murfy, ups is putting less neglect on the line than i do!

Cheers guys.

Installed a UPS today. Sync hasn't changed. Keeping things tidy for mother approval factor:

So 11 days ish?..

Around a week. Watched it creep up from 37Mbit, 44Mbit, 58Mbit, 79Mbit and then 105Mbit all with resyncs around 3am.

That's preforming pretty solidly!

I'm impressed that you were able to gradually see it like that.
