Looking to switch my VDSL to Fibre.

The start plan is 100/20Mbps

We are use to about 24/7Mbps and havnt had any need for more as all our Netflix etc plays fine.

Aside from Vodafone TV is there anything else I should take into consideration?

Yes that is 100% fine. I'd be dumbfounded if Chorus released a plan that wouldn't facilitate on fibre some of the most basic web activities like watching Netflix.
99% of people who have a requirement for greater upload would know this from the outset and wouldn't ask the question :)

You also get lower latency on Fibre compared to copper and 20 Mbp/s is loads for Joe average

Vodafone TV is not delivered over the internet connection as such it's done over the multi cast channel so zero impact to the actual internet traffic

yes I thought 100/20 would be fine, but then I saw 500-900 down and whatever up and I was like what on earth would I ever need that for. I presume continuous downloading. But now torrent is all but dead and illegal I can imagine unless you are a business what kind of content you would be qued to download......

Also think of a household with a number of people that like streaming. 4 or 5 streams from Netlfix, lightbox, youtube in HD will tend to use a bit of bandwidth.

Also agree with the above, downloading isn't dead by any means, it's probably just moved off being so public.

The increase from what you have now is bigger than it appears because UFB headline speeds are after overheads are subtracted, while xDSL speeds are not. My VDSL syncs at 70/18 but real world speeds are 62/16. With 100/20, you actually get 100/20 - sometimes even a little more.

That's because 100/20 isn't 100/20. It's 100+something/20+something. It was done because no-one wanted to try and explain to the general public that there were overheads to account for and that getting "100" out of a Layer2 "100" service was impossible.

There was a LOT of money and time wasted by the whole industry because people wanted to see a round number on speedtest results.

Mutter, grumble.

I have mail/web/Plex/"seedbox" server at home, I play games while others are streaming and all that going on via a 65/30 VDSL connection and we have no issues.

According to the rate card it's 107.5/19.5, so technically 20-something on the upstream (or, even more technically, 20+something where something=-0.5). But I digress...

I see what you mean ( https://company.chorus.co.nz/file/79682/Chorus-UFB-Services-Agreement-Bitstream-2-Accelerate-Service-Description---June-2017.pdf ) but that's just the LP. Look at the PIR columns in the chart on page 6.

Yes maybe Im just naive to torrents. I just never downloaded anything as Im not that big into music or movies, although Netflix has changed my life (for the worse haha). I never watch TV. Although i miss Magnum PI, but cant find him online although he might be in Hulu.....

So im in an apartment, its a single story of 9, its all connected outside according to Chorus checker. How long does the usual install take to occur?

Do they try to use the existing copper cable conduit?

I dont know why Im excited, but I think this means I might have to buy an Xbox so I can play madden against the US guys hehe.

If the apartment building itself is all fibred up, a month, give or take. Your ISP will be able to give you exact dates here.

If they still need to bring fibre inside the building, a year will be more likely.
