I am just curious why would this happen?

Its in a very rural location with no cell coverage and no wisp coverage that I can see.

Has anyone got access to more information on chrous cabinets than what is publicly available that I can PM?

Or is there a simple answer?

Thanks

Cabinet is called HP/E but it appears to be a PCM cabinet. No broadband smarts.

to me this looks to be gis missreading a PCM as a ASAM.

Can't confirm it being a PCM further from this end until i get to the office.

coffeebaron: Where?

Thanks for the help.

Now you know the location (beside the cabinet) what chance would I have of connecting up to RBI via a directional antenna?

I've driven through there multiple times and from memory the coverage came from Hamner Springs, there is no coverage at all on any provider around your area. I honestly think it is Satellite in your case. Have you contacted https://www.amuri.net/?

As said above Amuri Net are your best option. Chris is boss is a pretty good guy. If they don't have coverage it is best talking to them, they maybe able to expand to there or it maybe part of there future plans, they got some RBI 2 funding I understand.

HP/E It is a PCM cab so only POTS no broadband. That is unlikely to change any time soon unless someone wants to pay Chorus a fair chunk of money to upgrade it.

HP/AI (Engineers Camp) and HP/H (Boyle River) have both been upgraded to support ADSL 2+ and VDSL and Vodafone / Spark have put in a micro cell site at least Boyle River, there was one at Engineers Camp, not sure if it is still there. It's not suitable for RBI fixed wireless.

It was done as part of the earthquake alternative highway (as well as a number of others between between Springs Jnc and Murchison)

There is existing fibre running from HP/H to HP/AI then to HP/AH, so they upgraded the cabinets and the eDMR link which runs from HP/AH to Mt Kakapo then down to Hamner Springs.
