Hi Team

I think this question would best be directed at Chorus but I thought I'd post here see if anyone has been in a similar situation

So the fibre light cladding on the outside of the house where our chorus ONT is mounted needs replacing as it's got a bit of fibre light missing and there are ants coming into the house.

what do we do about the ETP it would need to be removed and reinstalled on the new sheet of fibre light.. The power meter is also there but I guess we will just have to cut around that...

You'd need the ETP removed and re-installed. That's a Chorus techie job and not something you can do yourself.

And I assume chorus pay as it's part of their network?

I think they'd want you to pay.

Calling @InstallerUFB, does the customer have to pay for this kind of work?

Wow really? it's not even owned by us! and what about the power meter would we just cut around it or get it removed also?

You cannot touch a meter box, infact in general most sparkies cannot unless they have have an agreement and certs with the local lines company.

As for the ETP, if you disturb the fibre to remove and put back the ETP then you need Chorus to do it.

Depending on the age of the Fibrolite it could be the sort containing asbestos. That isn't a show stopper but when you factor in disposal of the old sheet patching the original rather than replacing might be more practical. Ants will just move to another route in & out of the house.

You'd probably save a lot of time and stress to just get the exterior commercially sprayed. There are $99 GrabOne deals for that sort of thing all the time IME. Co-ordinating and paying Chorus subbies, linesmen, and a builder just sounds ripe for disaster given reported experiences with Chorus for the last few years.

Oh ants are only half the problem. There’s a decent size hole where water can get in it really needs to be replaced.as for the ETP we can ask the builder to rip it off the wall so he can do his job.. then we will ring RSP and tell them our internet isn’t working.. tell them it looks like the ETP was ripped off the wall while we were on holiday... nothing to do with us we weren’t home!

Just realized that my idea wont work as then there wont be any hole where the fibre came into the house so chorus would know the Fibrolite was replaced..

Your cladding should be asbestos free but the later fibre cement is not as tolerant of water. It needs the edges sealed. That corner probably got a bit soft and broke off under pressure from the cable with the paint on it.
Normally fibre cement cladding is supposed to end 150 - 200mm above ground level. Yours may be lower down the foundation than it should have been or the garden level has been lifted up. Even if there is a hole that needs covering, that corner is a repair that wouldn't need the whole sheet replaced.

Just checked and currently the cable with the paint on it it isn't touching it at all it just looks like it is in the pic.

That's now, what about when the corner of the sheet was still there? When the cable was being installed would it have rubbed on the edge of the original corner?

I don't think it did the piece was there yesterday but now it's gone I think the dog got it it was loose then it just broke away. It's going to be hard to get someone in to do such a small job
